President Trump announced that he will be hosting a press conference at the White House on Saturday afternoon to provide updates on the coronavirus outbreak.

Trump said he would speak at the White House at 1:30 p.m. ET, shortly before he is scheduled to make an appearance at the annual Conservative Political Action Conference.

Laura Ingraham suggested last night that there should be a WH briefing on this everyday to calm fears.

Trump'd be foolish not to, since the rats have telegraphed their strategy.

Agreed.  It's much harder to argue President Trump wasted too much time fighting the outbreak.

I'd prefer Pence do all the updates.

Trump is too much of a lightning rod.

The truth is that the management of this outbreak, and Community Health in general, is primarily a State and Local issue.   Pence was a Governor and he knows just about everyone from that tenure.  Every state has a Department of Health that is VERY generously funded, and this is when they need to step up.

This is about getting the local Health Pros the resources they need and by most reports they've been afforded all the tools they need ... except for the test kits (huge I know) ... but they are in the channel.   One of the reagents in the original test kits failed and they had to alter their manufacturing, inventory and distribution schedule.

This "crisis" will be a memory by early May.   But, obviously, it can re-emerge come mid October if a vaccine is not yet ready.   Virus' die or go dormant when the weather heats up but they can come back wit' a vengance.

I couldn't agree more.  VP Pence is very comforting.

It's hard to argue that you have a single, authentic take on this President or Administration.

You were too busy getting tingles up your leg during the Impeachment Hoax to understand that this Administration was working on a defense to this challenge around January 1.

@ArneFufkin I like you.  I've known you since FR.  I think you are very smart and very witty.  We used to agree about lots of stuff.  What's more I'm sad, and sorry that you are so angry at me.  When you wanna talk about politics, instead of me...ping me.

On that subject, you and I agree.  I thought he did very well at today's conference.  Sounded like he knows what he's doing and is on top of things.

I remember you, O-L.  And, I have a fondness as well.   I think you ran a forum for a while that I liked.

Did I used to call you "Sensai" back in the day cuz of your Karate prowess?  Did one of your kids humiliate all of us experts in an NCAA pick'em pool?      I might have that wrong.   Might be someone else.

How can you say a second "Trump impeachment" would be okay for you?

That's what I don't get.

Politics is why I support Trump.  You can check my posts here in mid 2016, I thought Trump was the Anti-Christ.  But, I have looked at his actions, checked the outcomes, and I've been DELIGHTED by what's transpired.   For God's sake, the Ninth Circuit has been flipped and the most heinous organization on Earth, Planned Parenthood, LOST a case there this past week.

He's deregulated up the yin-yang.  He approved pipelines and fracking and drilling that has made American energy independent and a net EXPORTER of LNG and Oil.  He just freed up California farmers from insane Obama water prohibitions and demands ... so they can actually irrigate their crop lands.   Encroachment by unknown criminal aliens over our Southern Border has been cut by over 50% this past year from usual, nearby mountain flowage.  The border wall IS being built.  He destroyed the ISIS Caliphate and took out three of the most dangerous terrorists on Earth.   Little Rocket Man hasn't tested a ballistic missile since their Love Fest.  There are almost 200 new Conservative jurists in District and Appeals Courts, and two Constitutionalists on the Supreme Court.  Four Judicial Districts have been FLIPPED from Obama/Clinton activists to Trump appointees.   He's taken on the NATO slackers.  He's jettisoned us from the terrible Paris Accords, the JPCA, and the proposed TPP.  NAFTA is gone for a better America-first USMCA agreement.   We've made inroads with China, India, Japan, South Korea and the EU on their onerous trade practices.  he lowered business taxes back to a level that is commensurate with our economic rivals.  He got rid of the "Death Tax" ... so family farm members don't have to sell a generational family farm to a corporation just because Dad's assets are in property and destroying the heritage is the only way to satisfy the IRS after he passes away.  That is ... HUGE ... in any family farm or business.  He got rid of the "Individual Mandate" from Obamacare ... you have to pay a penalty to the IRS if you don't choose to enter a Health Care demand you cannot monthly afford IN THE FIRST PLACE! He's been a loyal pro-life advocate.  He has re-invigorated our military and turned the rancid VA upside down and given our Vets a paid, private care option if they are not being adequately served.  He makes the MSM clinically insane.  He's exposed the "Deep State' ... which does exist and has been attacking our personal liberty and Constitutional rights for years ... and largely BEAT them.

Most importantly:  He's not the Marxist Bernie or one of the other assclowns the Dems are putting out as alternatives.

I'm always salty but I just will never understand at this juncture why anyone, who remotely considers themselves a Conservative or Libertarian, would do anything but viciously fight against this incipient Socialist and Totalitarian energy that is coming from the Sanders and Democrat constituency.    And, like it or not, Trump is the electoral bulwark from a direction that is going to turn America into something I really don't want to see.

That's about it.

The problem is the President would be the lightening rod with this enemedia whether he's leading the presser or not @ArneFufkin   If the VP gave the updates the headlines would be:  "Where's Trump?", "Why is the President Hiding?" and "The President Abdicates Responsibility for Fighting Virus".

We don't win with the WH press .... ever.

Exactly.  Trump is now considering closing the southern border.  Do it Mr. President. Do it.  Should have been done a long long time ago --- pretty difficult for the DEMS to cry foul under these circumstances!

@ArneFufkin
Thank you for the substantially meaty reply.  Rather than dispute or denigrate each of your very valid point by saying USMCA is just NAFTA rebranded, or Heritage Foundation and McConnell deserve more praise for our judges, let me say you have made a solid case for President Trump and my only general counter is I expect a lot from a GOP controlled government.  Much more than taxcuts and divisiveness.  I think President Trump is a vain, dumb, and corrupt person.  Based on the 2016 election that may not be a majority opinion...or maybe voters thought Hitlery was more vain, dumb, and corrupt.  I know I did marginally.

It looks like we will watch President Trump face Sen Bernie Sanders in 2020.  Let's hope voters think Sanders is more vain, dumb, and corrupt than Trump.  Let's hope they credit President Trump with the economy he presided over and it remains strong.  Sadly IMHO all of President Trump's indisputably  legitimate victories were accomplished by Executive Order.  Let's hope President Sanders is not the ultimate Trump legacy and reverses them immediately.
