Obama to Trump: You Didn’t Build That Economy

The erstwhile president claims credit for a vibrant economy he said wasn’t coming back.

Former President Obama took to Twitter Monday for the purpose of celebrating the 11th anniversary of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA). It seemed an odd time to celebrate an $830 billion “stimulus” bill that is universally regarded as a failure. Even the New York Times described ARRA as an ineffective exercise in neoliberalism in an opinion piece titled “Barack Obama’s Biggest Mistake.” Yet our erstwhile president insists that it launched “more than a decade of economic growth and the longest streak of job creation in American history.” This is easy to dismiss as solipsistic bluster, but there is method in Obama’s madness.

The Democrats know they can’t defeat President Trump as long as the electorate credits him for the salubrious state of the economy. And, according to the latest Gallup poll, “Sixty-three percent of Americans now approve of the way Trump is handling the economy.” This is an evil portent for the Democrats. As Gallup further notes, “If Trump asks Americans whether they are better off than before he came into office, most would say they are. Trump also gets more credit for recent economic improvements than Obama does.” Consequently, the Democrats must somehow convince the public that the president is just the political beneficiary of the economic boom rather than its author.

Obama has the same ego issues as the  current president. He isn’t just coming out and trying to take credit for this economy just because. He’s doing it because recent polls show that people give Trump more credit than  Obama
I have little interest in streamlining government or in making it more efficient, for I mean to reduce its size. I do not undertake to promote welfare, for I propose to extend freedom. My aim is not to pass laws, but to repeal them.

I guess most pols have giant egos. But you are correct, Obama has his feelings (ego) hurt over this.

I have always said that Obama was the only president that could make me think that Bill Clinton wasn't so bad.

Both sides will take credit for success that may or may not be due to their policies.
The American economy is so strong it can withstand the efforts of commie grifters like Obama to wreck it. But a succession of economic dolts like Obama can eventually totally wreck it.
While I don't think Obama has a clue as to how to grow an economy, Republican presidents often take undue credit for things that would have happened anyway.
The basic rule for the economy to grow is for government to get out of the way.
Trump deserves a great deal of  credit simply by deregulation, lower taxes, and trying not to punish businesses for being successful like Obama tried to do.

Obama was a punk stoner slacker who had no experience in economics, business, international affairs, he had no experience in anything. Under his leadership the American economy ground to a screeching halt and the Middle East went into full blown chaotic meltdown. He spent most of his time sleeping or partying while Jarrett ran the White House. It is more than absurd for him to claim 'credit' for anything except utter incompetence and systemic corruption and subversion of every agency of government.

Nobody voted for Obama. They voted for 'the Black guy' who isn't even really Black, to make themselves feel enlightened and superior. It could have been any light skinned mulatto socialist with a White sounding accent. Obama just happened to be in the right place at the right time with the right skin color. It could have been any Black guy with the right accent and Soros backing. He is the luckiest guy on Earth, nothing more than that. A guy with no experience in anything except slacking. No documented history, academic or otherwise, and no qualifications happened to get elected President. And he was horrible at it.

Now he wants credit? That's the stupidest joke I have ever heard. He should go back to his 15 million dollar mansion with his secret service staff and lifetime pension and count his blessings for being the luckiest stoner slacker ever. Why should he push it? Just take what you have and get the hell out of the way.

What did Rush use to say?  When Obama entered the room, he became the guy with the least smarts in the room.

He is a narcissist extreme.

Means he will take what he has because he considers he 'deserves it', but no way will he stay in the shadows.

Like the only other President remotely as bad as him Carter, we will have to put with his arrogance for another 4 decades minimum.

In essence, the most helpful thing this administration has done is to get government out of the way of Americans trying to do better.

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Ah, the good old days. Sometimes I forget to give 0bama credit for all those jobs he "created or saved". And remember that doomsday prediction that if the stimulus didn't pass, unemployment could go as high as 8%? So they passed it and even with all those "shovel-ready" jobs unemployment soared into double digits. 0bama's ineptitude forced the Fed's risky QE venture; his "successes" would be more accurately measured in 0bamaphones and food stamps.
