MSNBC’s Chris Matthews Predicts Electoral Disaster For Democrats Under Bernie Sanders

MSNBC “Hardball” host Chris Matthews predicted Tuesday that electoral disaster will occur for Democrats if they nominate Independent Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders as their presidential candidate.

Matthews said Sanders’ socialist views won’t be embraced by a majority of Americans and the Democrats risk losing 49 states to Trump as Sen. George McGovern did to then-President Richard Nixon in 1972.

“I think this country will never go that direction and by the way we’ll lose 49 states and I was there in 1972 at the Democratic Convention when the people on the left were dancing in glee,” said Matthews. “I saw them, literally — they were dancing in a circle.”

He warned: “So that could happen again. So clearly. That is what I see. It could happen again.”

This is quite revealing.  Sanders is the most honest expression of what Democrats believe and want.  So Matthews is essentially saying that if Democrat candidates are open and honest about what they want to do once given power, then they will lose.  But if they hide their true intentions from the electorate, they have the chance to win.

Carville pretty much said the same thing.  Any non-foam-mouth frothing dim realizes that a Sanders candidate and plank is political suicide.
At least for the 15-25 years I guess.

Trump is probably going to win reelection and probably fairly comfortable but I wouldn’t hold my breath for a 49 State Nixon style landslide

 I don’t see Trump taking California or New York.

 Trump starts out with advantages that he didn’t have in 2016. One, he’s an incumbent. It’s tough to beat  an incumbent president. Secondly, people are feeling pretty good about the economy now. And, probably just as important, the Democrats are poised to nominate one of the most radical candidates since McGovern. It’s unlikely a 2008 scenario is gonna play out just in time for the election for them

Those days are over and they aren't coming back (short of another civil war and subsequent "reconstruction").

Sanders will easily win:
California
Oregon
Washington state
Illinois
Maryland
D.C
Delaware
New Jersey
New York
Connecticut
Massachusetts
Rhode Island
Vermont

Perhaps Colorado and New Mexico, too.

Mr. Trump will win a comfortable victory in the Electoral College and may break into victory in the popular vote (what will this do to the "NPV" movement??).

But there will be no landslide.

Folks, hold me to this. Save this and toss it up in my face on November 4 if I'm wrong. I'll be VERY VERY happy to eat these words!

Bernie gets the Dem nod, Trump takes 38 states and finishes out better than 2016.  If Bloomberg is the candidate, Trump takes 40 states.

Only Hillary will give Trump a serious run for POTUS.  If she gets the nod, all she need do is run in six states, WI, MI, OH, PA, FL and NC.  She does that, and this time has three planks that benefit voters, she has a real shot.

Couple things would help her, elimination of income taxes.  Jim DeMint did it, and people voted for him in SC to be senator even though everything else he said made him sound like a real lunatic.  He easily won.

If she indicated that she will defend Social Security to the death, and fight for a 10, 15, or 20% increase in benefits for seniors, then she gets people's attention.  It is the seniors that vote in huge numbers.    She has planks that truly get the attention of those that vote, and she has a real shot.  Trump's idiotic comments at Davos could kill his campaign.  Also, he promised only one thing to happen Day One, the elimination of the H1-b Visa Program.  He met with the power brokers in tech, and decided to INCREASE the H1-b Visa Program.  A REAL BETRAYAL FOR HIGH PAYING JOBS FOR AMERICANS. 

If Clinton takes up that cause, she easily takes 500,000 votes away from Trump.  I know a number of folks that were burned by this bullsh*t, where largely folks from India replaced Americans at half the salary and no benefits, many in Florida.  She does this, she takes Florida.  She needs planks to motivate folks that would not vote for her to vote for her.

And she needs to be repentant on the deplorable nonsense.  Truly idiotic that, and it cost her the election.

Mathews is pro-Marxist.  He just recognizes that a majority of voters is not.  So he needs a candidate who will keep his/her Marxist agenda under wraps, just like Obama did, in order to get elected.

When the entitlement class grows that large, you are right, it is inevtiable.  Those sucking on the left hind teat of Uncle Sugar are going make sure the gravy train perpetuates.  Of course, we know that is a myth just like the Money Tree.

I don't think it happens this, and the next few elections cycles.  But when the last of us Boomers vacate.......   All bets are off.
