Meanwhile ... we are supposed to have another day of record heat for this time of year ... doesn't appear that temperature will affect this virus.

Daycares are opening up in spite of schools being closed in this area -- that makes no sense!

I'm surprised.  There are still quite a few countries that have not be infected with the virus.

What countries have not declared any known cases of coronavirus?

1.         Angola                                          32,866,272

Going through these -- some of the states with a higher infection number has a higher death toll percentage -- some nearly 5%.

West Virginia, none so far per the map. Interesting.  They must be the only state to not have any such cases.

Covid-19: The numbers tell the story
By Marc Shepard

By merging datasets recently made available by the World Health Organization, the Centers for Disease Control and Johns Hopkins University, I’ve gathered some truly fascinating trend statistics on the global penetration of Covid-19 which I’m now prepared to share.  There are 20 infected countries on page one of my analysis – and these are their stories.

Coronavirus (Covid-19) Global Penetration Statistics by Country as of 3/14/2020 08:00 GMT

Moonshine and pepperoni rolls, baby! It's true, we still haven't had a confirmed case in WV.

My question du jour: For weeks we've been lectured over hand washing, coughing into our elbows, not having personal contact with others, maintaining a 6' distance from people, etc. At the same time, we keep hearing predictions that no matter what, there will be millions of dead Americans.

So, are all these precautions not going to work - or are some people just hoping they won't work?

No one knows... And the worst part is...
If the rate stays well below the advertised and expected 200k-1.7m... Say, 100k or so.... Everyone will praise this nonsense, and those hawking it will take credit, while very probably not having changed a damn thing. Because if the rate remains low, it is within the realm of regular flu-season outbreak, in which coronavirus is a typical participant.

I won't be surprised if the total number of fatalities from Covid19, when all is said and done, is no greater than that of whatever variety of flu we've been dealing with this winter.

Its got a helluva way to go then, cause there've been ~20k deaths from the good ol' flu in the US so far this year.

Yesterday at church, my choir director mentioned that his family had watched some Shakespeare movies, including "Much Ado About Nothing." I said, "Is that about coronavirus?" and everyone fell down laughing.

Before anyone jumps on me, yes, I know it's not nothing. But we're still seeing way too much "ado" about it.

Provided that we can just get EVERYONE to wash their hands, cough into their elbow, stay home when sick and practice social distancing we should be fine.  Otherwise, IMHO I think the 2 million deaths worst case scenario could become reality.

The liberal governor of Illinois directed people to limit crowds to 50 as well as in bars and restaurants -- the people refused.  So ....we could easily have a disaster on hand.  The stat that I heard is that one person with the virus could easily result in infecting 120.

People need to learn from Italy and Spain.  Italy is a disaster.

  Italy is a disaster.
I think that may be due, at least in part, to their terrible healthcare system and the hordes of Chinese workers they import.

Coronavirus: Watch how germs spread

Coronavirus has been seen in more than 30 countries. The virus can spread from person to person and officials recommend simple steps to avoid becoming infected.

Dr Adele McCormick from the University of Westminster demonstrated how germs spread and what the best methods are to avoid catching a virus.

Well said. Its possible to take this seriously but still recognize the current reaction is over the top.

I thought that just a few days ago because the media hype and the toilet paper thing have been so far over the top, but I've changed my tune, and this is why......

Scientists, health care professionals, pastors, educators, religious leaders, state leaders, community leaders, calm, conservative, thoughtful people are gravitating to the same place.......

The less contact we have with others during the coming weeks, the slower the spread of this disease will be.  The more large gatherings that are cancelled, the lower the risk will be.  The less close contact we have with strangers, the safer we will be.

A niece who is a physician in Montana has seen a case, another niece and family who are in northern Indiana is in quarantine because their daughter's best friend's mom tested positive.  A sister in law who is immune compromised has been told to self-isolate.  Our (Tea Party) Conservative pastor is doing only online services because he believes it is the most loving thing we as Christians can do.

Great measures are being taken to slow the growth of this virus by Governors and lower level community leaders.

And perhaps it is BECAUSE of these measures that this will turn out to be "nothing."  Because the "much ado" prevented a disaster, and on the record books this WILL be no more than the flu.

Except that won't be the reality of it, because it is significantly worse.  It will be because people were smart, stayed home and considered the good of the people they love rather than carrying on as if life these days is any form of normal.
Character still matters.  It always matters.

I wear a mask as an exercise in liberty and love for others.  To see it as an infringement of liberty is to entirely miss the point.  Be kind.

"Sometimes I think the Church would be better off if we would call a moratorium on activity for about six weeks and just wait on God to see what He is waiting to do for us. That's what they did before Pentecost."   - A. W. Tozer

Use the time God is giving us to seek His will and feel His presence.

Thank you for the articles on soap.  I have been criticized for not using hand sanitizers -- the alcohol wreaks havoc with my already severely dry skin -- but soap and water have worked fine for me.

I'll second that.
