Since that time, Georgia has received usable kits.

Coronavirus testing ramps up in Georgia

By Beau Evans Staff Writer Capitol Beat News Service Mar 5, 2020

ATLANTA — State health officials stepped up testing for coronavirus in Georgia on Thursday following confirmation earlier this week of the state’s first two cases.  Gov. Brian Kemp said late Thursday afternoon that no new COVID-19 cases have been confirmed so far after two people tested positive for the virus Monday night.  Dr. Kathleen Toomey, the state’s public health commissioner, said the risk remains low for an outbreak in Georgia and there are no signs now that the virus is spreading within local communities.

But as health officials begin testing more people arriving in Georgia from other countries, Toomey said she expects more confirmed cases could surface.  “We expect we will ultimately find more positive cases,” Toomey said at a news conference Thursday. “The more you test, the more you find.”

Georgia’s state lab began testing for the virus Thursday, tripling the number of diagnostic tests the state has conducted so far, Toomey said.  She did not give a specific count of how many tests were done before Thursday but said it was a “small number.”

The state now has more than 2,500 diagnostic test kits on hand from the federal government capable of completing 1.5 million individual tests, Kemp said.
Anyone in the state will be able to receive testing regardless of the status of their health insurance, Toomey said.  “If you are uninsured, we will provide the test for free,” she said.

You are citing a MSM broadcast network for intelligent information about dealing with this?  The CBC?   HA HA HA HA HA!!!!!   You have gone off the rails.  Do this site a favor and resign as moderator.   Moderators are supposed to be above the fray.  You just make it worse.

Talk is cheap, refute the statement with facts. If you can't, then, some people must resort to insults.   If you have knowledge, show it, don't taunt people "HA HA HA HA HA!!!!", you know, this is the level of debate... Yeah, we quoted something that was on a website.

@catfish1957

I'm a little taken aback by this.  Yeah, I am.  While the CBC may not be the credible source you'd prefer, millions refer to it.  It is MSM, like it or not.  And then, to make it personal?  Just an out-of-place post it seems to me.

National Guard activated to combat coronavirus spread in six states, more to follow

Military Times 3/14/2020

https://www.militarytimes.com/news/coronavirus/2020/03/13/national-guard-activated-to-combat-coronavirus-spread-in-six-states-more-to-follow/

Quote
Around 400 National Guard personnel have been activated across six states to support operations to stem the spread of novel coronavirus, the National Guard Bureau said in a press release.

The governors of Florida, Iowa, Louisiana, New York, Rhode Island and Washington have all activated components of their Army and Air National Guard. Guardsmen in California and Maryland are also expected to join their states’ efforts today.

“The National Guard is fully involved at the local, state, and federal level in the planning and execution of the nation’s response to COVID-19,” a National Guard Bureau spokesperson said in the release. “In times of emergency, the National Guard Bureau serves as a federal coordinating agency should a state require assistance from the National Guard of another state.”

“At the national level, Guard members are training personnel on COVID-19 response, identifying and preparing National Guard facilities for use as isolation housing, and compiling state medical supply inventories,” the release continued. “National Guard personnel will provide assistance to the states that include logistical support, disinfection/cleaning, activate/conduct transportation of medical personnel, call center support, and meal delivery."

Temperature and Latitude Analysis to Predict Potential Spread and Seasonality for COVID-19

To date, Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19), caused by SARS-CoV-2, has established significant community spread in cities and regions only along a narrow east west distribution roughly along the 30-50 N” corridor at consistently similar weather patterns (5-11 degrees Celsius and low specific and absolute humidity). There has been a lack of significant community establishment in expected locations that are based only on population proximity and extensive population interaction through travel. We have proposed a simplified model that shows a zone at increased risk for COVID-19 spread.

That's interesting.  So, the affected latitudes will change in the coming months, as we are almost upon the Equinox when the change is most rapid.

Conspicuously absent from the Coronavirus news has been India, SE Asia or Africa. Perhaps no one has reported from these regions but it seems in spite of their population density & shoddy healthcare systems they've been relatively unaffected.

It likely also has to do where the Chinese commonly travel.

Yes, there are huge Chinese communities throughout SE Asia.

Contrast this with what happened in Italy.

It was mentioned upthread Italians are generally "touchy-feely" people, open with the hugs, kisses and rump-pinching.  The Asians, on the other hand, tend to be stand-offish.  Remember when O'Bastard put the grabs on that leader from Thailand (I think)?  I could see her skin crawling in the pictures at the time.  Yuck.

It was as embarrassing as when he slapped the Queen of England on the back and drank during a toast.

India: Confirmed - 102
          Deaths  - 2
          Recovered - 4
          Active - 96

Considering the population, there are very few cases there.

That, plus their socialized healthcare system, is what spread it so quickly. But I had heard there was a relatively large community of Chinese expats in Italy which is the cause of the virus migration.

And my understanding is that when direct travel was restricted, they found other ways to get there.

That, combined with the age of the population, explains a lot of the reason there have been so many cases, and so many deaths there.

There is a lot of travel between Milan and China (direct flights) because the Chinese have bought businesses there.

I think that's also true about how Iran got to be so hard hit.  If the Philippines was the location of "ground zero," Saudi Arabia would have been hard hit as well.  Especially the way Filipinos are treated as third-class people in SA.

99% of the Americans (with underlying health problems) who have died from the coronavirus have an average age of 80.

Why shut down America over a relatively very few, sick, elderly folk that the coronavirus kills when there are so many other things that are killing in much, much larger numbers?

Let’s look at the statistics per the CDC. https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/fastats/deaths.htm

Heart disease: 647,457
Cancer: 599,108
Accidents (unintentional injuries): 169,936
Chronic lower respiratory diseases: 160,201
Stroke (cerebrovascular diseases): 146,383
Alzheimer’s disease: 121,404
Diabetes: 83,564
Influenza and Pneumonia: 55,672
Nephritis, nephrotic syndrome and nephrosis: 50,633
Intentional self-harm (suicide): 47,173

Coronavirus? 50

The government and media say that the case fatality rate in America is 3.4% without extensive testing of the population. How did they come to that number?

The South Koreans found their case fatality rate is about 0.67% with extensive testing.

That's a good possibility.  Pretty much everything about India is filthy, and their proximity to China should indicate a greater risk, but the numbers there are very low.

That may also be true for all of Africa.  VERY few cases there.  Of course, if China doesn't do a lot of business there, that's a possibility too, but the numbers are really small.

In fact, the country where our son and dil are presently living has none at all.

Grateful for that.

Friday on “Fox & Friends,” 65-year-old Jerri Jorgensen, a former Diamond Princess cruise ship coronavirus patient, detailed her sickness and the fallout since being diagnosed with the disease.

Jorgenson revealed after running a slight fever and feeling “a bit off” for a few hours on the cruise ship, she is no longer testing positive for COVID-19. She said the “hysteria” since she has gotten back home to Utah has gotten “out of control.”

“The hysteria has just gotten out of control,” Jorgenson declared. “All the toilet paper being gone — I don’t get the toilet paper thing. I really don’t.”
