True dat.  The masks I've seen in all these pictures from Asia and elsewhere are worthless at warding off viral exposure.  The masks are intended to be worn by people who are coughing, and medical personnel to prevent contaminating the patients.

As I suspected from the start, the virus gets airborne by hitching a ride on expelled spittle, it doesn't just float in the air by itself.  Shield the coughs and sneezes from the inside of the mask, not the outside.

It is also possible that the typical mask works as an atomizer when someone wearing one sneezes through it... Especially after being saturated with previous sneezes... The finer the mist, the longer it stays in the air...

Why believe anything China claims?

From what I have seen on Youtube videos, etc., much of China is still under major lockdown.

Can't prove it, but I think this is a man-made monster and it is killing far more Chinese than they are saying.

Everybody understands the dangers of the flu and related complications that kill hundreds of thousands every year. We don't need a wild card thrown in the mix. Especially one that tries to kill you and if that doesn't work it tries to kill you again.

A vaccine won't stop it.

Researchers have identified new compounds with activity against the novel coronavirus called COVID-19 and other coronaviruses eg, severe acute respiratory syndrome virus (SARS-CoV) and Middle-East respiratory disease virus (MERS-CoV).

Scientists working towards a broad-spectrum antiviral able to combat all the coronaviruses identified a target – a ‘main protease’ that is essential for viral replication. According to the team, enteroviruses, such as those causing foot and mouth disease and the common cold, also have a similar protein called the 3C protease for viral replication, so can also be treated through this target.

“Our previous experience working with other coronaviruses, including both MERS and SARS, allowed us to mobilize quickly against COVID-19 and successfully complete the critical preliminary steps to engineer viable vaccine candidates,” said Stanley Erck, President and Chief Executive Officer of Novavax. “Now that the protein has been expressed stably in our baculovirus system, we aim to identify the optimal candidate and scale up production of sufficient vaccine for preliminary clinical trials. We are now well-positioned to advance the COVID-19 vaccine candidate to Phase I clinical testing in May or June.


So they are attacking on two fronts. Antiviral drugs that cure you. Vaccines that help you from needing to be cured.

Sumthin' tells me that if this epidemic keeps on growin' and growin', they're going to have to accelerate "the trial phase" of the vaccine (or antiviral drugs), and get them into the general population early (provided the initial testing looks to yield results that are safe)...

JOHNSON CITY, Texas (Gray News) – Police in central Texas say they have reason to believe methamphetamine in Blanco County may be contaminated with the coronavirus and should be checked.

The offer comes in a public service announcement posted by the Johnson City Police Department to Facebook.

“If you have meth with you, please get it tested prior to use,” the post says, offering addresses where people can take their drugs for testing.

There are still less than 100 cases in the U.S.  One of the biggest concerns is that there are 2 cases now where patients have not been in countries where the virus is more prevalent.  Secondly, it is still unknown if the virus will be affected when temperatures rise as is the case for the flu virus.  What if it mutates?

So many unknowns ... the thought of people lining up in masses to get this vaccine once available, I find frightening.  How many people get the flu shot and still get the flu?  How many people may get this vaccine and then become ill and would have been just fine without it?

I heard something about San Antonio earlier, the patient tested negative 2 times, was let out in the community for about 12 hour, "only to test positive for the virus."

There is much more unknown about this virus then known and that is the scary part.

Speculation keeps cropping up that this is a lab made monster virus ... even that still hasn't been completely debunked and certainly the WHO nor the CDC will ever admit it, if it is.

@Elderberry those are the stats that needs to slap everyone in the face.  The death toll is climbing. 75 countries are now infected. 

We know that the virus spread very easily like the flu. The stats on the 2019-2020 flu virus:

32,000,000 - 45,000,000 have been infected - 18,000 to 46,000 people have died  or roughly .01% of those infected.
In comparison, almost 3.5% of those infected dying from the coronavirus compared to .01% of those infected dying from the flu virus.

Overall, per the CDC, the death rate of those who have been infected with the flu this flu season is 0.05%. According to the research conducted by the Chinese CDC, the case-fatality rate of novel coronavirus in China is 2.3%.

Under the defintion of pandemic this is a pandemic. I read that it can survive on surfaces for up to nine days. Now that it is here it will always be around. Whether it becomes a recurring seasonal bug, who nows? If it isn't mutating how is it it can reinfect a person?

If it isn't such a big deal how much of China is still under quarantine?
