Ilhan Omar’s brazen response to Trump offering Iran peace: It’s not enough, he must bow down more

Michigan Representative Ilhan Omar took to Twitter on Wednesday to express her displeasure at President Donald Trump’s plan to move forward on Iran.

In his speech following Iran’s launch of 15 missiles that resulted in no American casualties, he proposed that the country “appears to be standing down.” But this didn’t mean that Trump was ready to put their history of terrorism behind him, as he suggested enacting “powerful” economic sanctions that would undoubtedly have a long-lasting impact on the Iranian regime.

It was this point that didn’t sit too well with Omar, who accused the president of “economic warfare.”

“This makes no sense,” she tweeted. “Sanctions are economic warfare. They have already caused medical shortages and countless deaths in Iran. You cannot claim to want de-escalation and then announce new sanctions with no clear goal. This is not a measured response!”

Precisely, @Maj. Bill Martin !   What the U.S is demanding doesn't place one single burden on the Iranian people or the sovereignty of the Iranian nation. He is not seeking regime change.   All he asks is that they join the family of civilized nations, and allow the benefits thereof to flow to the Iranian people.

He's handled this remarkably well.  This wasn't just about revenge/deterrence - it was also about resetting the entire relationship with Iran to put it on a trajectory more favorable to the U.S..  Iran went from thinking it was in charge to finding out very quickly that it wasn't.  And now calling for more sanctions, etc....It may or may not work, but it is the best possible chance we've got to stop Iran from becomes even more destabilizing, and from developing nukes.
