University of Baltimore School of Law Professor F. Michael Higginbotham published a column for CNN last week that made the case that it would actually be a “patriotic move†for President Trump to choose to resign.

All this talk about "healing", which we're going to be bombarded with if a Democrat happens to win in 2020, ignores that this division is unlike other periods of division. It isn't unusual for Americans of one political stripe to detest political leadership of another stripe. For all their modern revisionism, Reagan was reviled by most Democrats. Republicans didn't like Clinton, Democrats hated Dubya, and most Republicans didn't like Obama. We're used to that.
What the Democrats/leftists have done this time is extend that hatred to the
supporters of the politician they don't like. And in addition, whereas we previously all agreed to abide by the results of an election even if we didn't like it, Democrats have tossed that out as well. Playing by the rules only works if both sides do it. Democrats no longer believe in that, so why should we?
Trump resigning - which isn't going to happen anyway -- wouldn't change that. It would just rightly throw gas on the anger conservatives already feel regarding the attempt to overturn the 2016 election.
