Pelosi says Trump launched strike killing Iranian general without authorization

Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) on Thursday said that an airstrike that killed Iranian Maj. Gen. Qassem Soleimani was not authorized and Congress was not consulted on the decision.

“The Administration has conducted tonight’s strikes in Iraq targeting high-level Iranian military officials and killing Iranian Quds Force Commander Qasem Soleimani without an Authorization for Use of Military Force (AUMF) against Iran," Pelosi said in a statement.

"Further, this action was taken without the consultation of the Congress," she added.


She also said the move provoked "further dangerous escalation of violence."

If he had told them first, considering the Democrat connections with Islam, he wouldn't have been there (He'd have been tipped off).

A big part of National Security is OPSEC, and frankly, there aren't many, if any Democrats that can be trusted, and some who definitely cannot be.

Soleimani was in Iraq, not Iran. So Trump did not act against the territory of Iran.

I don't know how many hours, days, or weeks this strike was in planning, but not telling Congress was leak prevention. As for Miss Nancy's whine, Shampeachments have consequences.

According to an NYT article I won't bother to link - their credibility is less than dubious in matters Trump - planning started a week ago, after that contractor was killed. Soleimani had been allowed to move around the ME with impunity for years, so I guess killing that contractor was the last of many "straws". Those years of impunity also seem to have motivated an arrogant carelessness in  Soleimani.

The plan for the strike was that if Soleimani had bet met/escorted at/from the airport by Iraqi government officials, the strike was off. But if not, boom!

I thought Congress in 2018 renewed the President's "Authorization to use Military Force Against Terrorism" for another four years.

Had this been repealed?

I don't think there's a Sunset on this law.  I Goggled it, and I don't see anything about sunsetting, but I did see O'Bastard's Administration did support it.

I think the Authorization requires periodic review of how the resolution has been used.  The next review is set for 2022 .... so this authorization must still be in effect.

So, what the hell is Pelosi talking about?  Congress has already given authorization to the President to strike terrorists.

Exactly.  This guy should have been taken out long ago.  Instead we allowed Iran and its terrorists to gain control in Iraq.  This is something I will not criticize the President for.

THere is a tremendous difference between striking at an Iranian general in Iran, and striking at an Iranian general in Iraq.  Especially when he's acting in Iraq to kill Americans in that same country.
