Dunno. The blade on a tobacco knife looked like a thin bit of sheet metal...but I have cut thousands of plants with one. 1/4 inch should do the trick...If it's gonna be like the Terror, you want it to be portable... :shrug:

If it was me in that thing, I would want the guarantee of a redneck sharpened heavy ass chopper. Don't need no ginsu for that job, thanks. One and done would be a kindness.
