Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

You say that like it would be a bad thing. Where is your sense of adventure?

It isn't that, it's just that there are so many people of questionable taste nowadays.

Besides, I'd hate to end up in a yard in blackface holding a lantern....

@Right_in_Virginia

Bonnie Raitt is a truly gifted musician,but she doesn't have the common sense necessary to pour piss out of a boot.

Given that she has spent her entire life in the music section of the entertainment industry since she was a teenager,this shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone. That is an insulated world,where reality is never allowed to intrude.

I knew a successful black businessman where I grew up who had a statue of a white jockey holding the lamp in front of his house (in the '60s). We all thought it was funny.

I thought he was all right. Some thought he was crooked, but if he was, he did it with style. Always well dressed, and better manners than some white folks around.  Like him or not, he was a pillar of the black community and thought little of the race agitators who came down from D.C. to try to stir up trouble.

If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power.

-Dwight Eisenhower-

"The [U.S.] Constitution is a limitation on the government, not on private individuals ... it does not prescribe the conduct of private individuals, only the conduct of the government ... it is not a charter for government power, but a charter of the citizen's protection against the government."

Too bad she can't add.
Romans 12:16-21

Live in harmony with one another; do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly, do not claim to be wiser than you are.  Do not repay anyone evil for evil, but take thought for what is noble in the sight of all.  If it is possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all…do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
