When Crap Is Art
« on: November 30, 2019, 10:48:45 pm »
Does anyone know the opposite of "art"?   I had to research it and discover "artifice," the definition of which you may find here:

My apologies. I fixed the link.

Agree 100% modern art is crap....garbage. It is like being served a dinner of fecal matter and told  it is great cuisine.
My theory is modern "artists" in the twentieth century realized they  could not match the works of the great artists who came before them.
So to make a living they concocted modern, abstract "art" to fool the gullible public, chiefly wealthy people who wanted to be seen as hip and with it. Worked great for the fraudsters and "art" dealers.

I never got Jackson Pollock. Not in a mandatory Art History course in college, and not when I went to one of his shows at the Guggenheim.  Just don’t get it. Appreciate his story and all, it’s just I don’t see anything in his art.

How about Basquiat, the dead heroin addict?  Does that do anything for you?  Piss Christ?  Rectal Bullwhip, subsidized by taxpayers?

I'm hardly an art common sewer, but I've never met anybody who said they liked modern art.
Of course, most of the people I know are common sewers like me.
Nevertheless, I've gone to modern art museums. Nothing impressed me. There's one in Milwaukee that I went to a few decades ago.
I walked in, and a lady at a desk welcomed me and gave me a short description of the wonderful things I was going to see, and I walked off on my self-guided tour.
I went through the whole building looking at crap walking at a very rapid pace.
After about fifteen minutes I was done.
As I walked past the lady who had given me the tour description, she looked at me in stunned amazement and asked me If I had seen everything.
I told her I'd seen everything I wanted to see and went out the door.
No more modern "art" for me, please.

I have a simple definition of "art",   If I could do it, it ain't "art".

Indeed.
Man's earliest structured cultures/societies had a spiritual sense, which developed
and matured over millennia, from the Akkadians of Sumer, to the Greeks, the Romans,
to the Renaissance onto the eve of the French Enlightenment.
It was manifested in their Architecture, Literature, Sculpture; later their Music and Portraiture.
Then the Enlightenment emerged arguing that material betterment was one of Man's highest aspirations and the key to his self-fulfillment, essentially replacing his spiritual sensibility.
We now know that the world is infinitely worse off for this revolt, which is exemplified by our so
called "Art", little more that incoherence, noise and trash, if that.

You cannot "COEXIST" with people who want to kill you.
If they kill their own with no conscience, there is nothing to stop them from killing you.

240B, that is such a great finding that I put it prominently on the When Crap Is Art website.

@DeerSlayer
That is only one example. There are several other exhibitions of turds and urine being used as art or paint. The avant-garde crowd think it's "edgy". Anything which breaks down societal norms, worldwide btw, is 'edgy', and therefore is great.

You can see this as art, but from a slight distance it looks like something else:

If, as anti-Covid-vaxxers claim, https://www.poynter.org/fact-checking/2021/robert-f-kennedy-jr-said-the-covid-19-vaccine-is-the-deadliest-vaccine-ever-made-thats-not-true/ , https://gospelnewsnetwork.org/2021/11/23/covid-shots-are-the-deadliest-vaccines-in-medical-history/ , The Vaccine is deadly, where in the US have Pfizer and Moderna hidden the millions of bodies of those who died of "vaccine injury"? Is reality a Big Pharma Shill?

Millions now living should have died. Anti-Covid-Vaxxer ghouls hardest hit.

Twenty years ago, I read about an art "teacher" at Cal State San Francisco, I believe it was, who allowed one student to defecate in front of the entire class.  Then another student put the feces into a bag and gave himself an enema with it.   Is that 'edgy' do ya think?

The school had an "Art Department," but apparently no "Health Department."

This isn't an accident, folks...

Quote
22. Continue discrediting American culture by degrading all forms of artistic expression. An American Communist cell was told to “eliminate all good sculpture from parks and buildings, substitute shapeless, awkward and meaningless forms.”
23. Control art critics and directors of art museums. “Our plan is to promote ugliness, repulsive, meaningless art.”

Seems like once Picasso was done, so was art, and many people don't like him, either.

Goes right along with what @Smokin Joe posted.
Could be a communist plot.I think Picasso was socialist, but I am sure he liked the money........

My wife was married to an artist before she met me, studied art, and work as an art framer for years, until just a few years ago.
(She would frame or shadow box about anything, a pretty interesting job, actually).
We both had an artistic bent, mine being music, so she was going to introduce me to the world of fine art.

Don't get me wrong, French Impressionist like Renoir, or Monet, I learned to like a lot.
Part of the fun was the history, learning what they painted and why they painted things a certain way.
Monet used to paint the same thing, but at three different times of the day, capturing the colors and the lighting at morning, mid-day and afternoon.
I was fascinated by those kind of things.

The old Masters, who doesn't love those artist?

However:
When I see most of modern art, I think it is the artist just making fun of the art crowd, seeing how much they can get away with and have all the art snobs still rave about their work.
It got to the point that I asked her,"When does there come a time when I walk into a gallery or a museum and see a blank canvas, and that is the new masterpiece?"
Yes, it has been done.
Rothko came close.....

It may be a communist plot, or it may be just a scam.
Either way, I find no joy or beauty in it, not anything done in the last 100 years or so.

It isn't that there aren't good artists out there, but the art snobs are so busy raving about, well, dreck, that the artists never are seen. Who teaches the people who are doing the raving about meaningless crap? Who teaches the artists? Again the problem goes back to the people who set the standards.

In my wanderings, I find my greatest solace in Western Art, in colors I never saw in skies in my youth back East, but have seen almost daily in sunsets over everything from verdant to desert landscapes, from prairies to mountains. The art still has meaning, perhaps not so much in the concrete and glass canyons of Manhattan, but out here where there are still valleys filled with hush*... https://centerofthewest.org/explore/western-art/
