Barack Obama was the most progressive Democrat in the Senate when he ran for President in 2008. The furthest left.
Obama now being a conservative Democrat (which is light-years from being an actual conservative) only emphasizes how far and how fast the Democrat Party as a whole has gone to the extreme left. So for all the elitist caterwauling about Trump supporters being radical right-wingers, the truth is that it isn't us who have moved. It's them.
@Maj. Bill Martin Barack Obama is intelligent enough to have learned a few things during his tenure in the White House, and based upon a few of his recent statements it does appear that he has moved a little bit off of his earlier, radical positions.
But as you indicate, the most dramatic movement since 2016 has been that of the Democrat Party's leadership, which has moved so far to the Left on virtually every issue that even Mr. Obama would have had great difficulty publicly supporting such views when he first ran for President in 2008.
Mirroring the Democrat's leftward lurch, the "mainstream media" now routinely promote positions that no more than 20 years ago would perhaps have been found acceptably "mainstream" only within the pages of the
Workers World Daily, and would otherwise have found support among only kooks, cranks and crazies.
