Graham blocked Armenian genocide resolution upon request from White House
By John Bowden - 11/24/19 07:21 PM EST

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) blocked a Senate resolution that would have officially recognized the Armenian genocide following a request from White House officials, he told Axios on Sunday.

Graham said he blocked a resolution previously passed by the House because Turkey's president, Recep Tayyip ErdoÄŸan, was in town to meet with President Trump at the time. Turkey vehemently opposes recognition of the genocide, which was committed by the Ottoman Empire between 1915-1917.

"After the meeting, we kind of huddled up and talked about what happened," Graham told Axios on Saturday, referring to senior White House officials, who he said asked him to "please object" to the Senate resolution.

I guess these kinds of 'resolutions' have limited effects. I still don't appreciate his doing this though. The Senate could have passed it and overridden it with a super majority.  He blocked it, I'm sure the Senate could have still put it into motion though. I guess, I don't get the whole process.

More of the presidents cow towing to the dictators in the world.   Thanks to Trump we could be voting on another genocide in years to come.

Lindsey Graham cannot be believed on anything.  Trump owns him.

The Ottomans refused to accept responsibility for their history and so what???
It simply reconfirms their eternal disgraceful cowardice.
Graham blocked a resolution confirming their disgrace and so what???
It simply confirms him as a political flunky.

I don't think it's as simple as that.  Here's a brief portion of this book: "Ottomans and Armenians: A Study in Counterinsurgency" by. Edward J. Erickson https://muse.jhu.edu/article/556644/pdf      I'll be researching this further too.

Er ................. it's about as simple as 2+2 = 4
Since Mohammed, Muslims were the mortal enemy of Middle East
Christians and the intolerant Muslim message was, convert or die.
The neurotic Ottomans perceived their Armenian Christian minority
as disloyal and supportive of Czarist Russia; which was pure paranoia.
Hence they decided to rid themselves of them, via genocide several
times in the 19th century, culminating in 1915; when they massacred
some 1,500.000 Armenians by forced starvation.
History is Man's greatest teacher and truth is its legacy.
Suggestion; dispense w/the sanctimony and embrace reality!!!!!

Similar to what is happening today in Syria.  Christians and Kurds being driven from their homes and land.

Especially since it happened decades ago.

@Absalom

All true, and a great tragedy. Still,it has NOTHING to do with America, and the creatures we call "politicians" need to spend their time working on improving and protecting AMERICA,not writing up legislation having to do with events in a foreign country multi-decades ago.

Or are they trying to say they have already fixed all of America's problems and have nothing more to do If so,fire their asses and send them back home.

@Chosen Daughter

Yes,it is,but the BIG difference is that is actually relevant in that it is  happening at this very moment, even if it is of no legal concern of America. We are NOT the "World's Daddy".

Sneaky, all true which begs a reflection.
The era of our Founding till 1914, spanned some 125 years.
During that period and despite the power of Imperial Britain,
we became the dominant economic colossus in world history.
Yet the Great War changed history forever in destroying
the Monarchical ruling structure across Europe.
Additionally, it did something far more insidious in our nation
as Wilson's brainless decision to enter a war, that was none
of our God-Dammed business, internationalized our politics.
As a consequence what went on world wide now became our
interest, our business and our concern!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
