Peggy Noonan: ‘Trump’s Defenders Have No Defense’

Pulitzer Prize-winning Wall Street Journal columnist Peggy Noonan declared Friday in her weekly column that “Trump’s Defenders Have No Defense.”

The column, which will appear in Saturday’s print edition, argues: “Almost everything in the impeachment hearings this week fleshed out and backed up the charge that President Trump muscled Ukraine for political gain.”

She continues:

    What was said consistently undermined Mr. Trump’s case, but more deadly was what has never been said. In the two months since Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced a formal impeachment inquiry was under way and the two weeks since the Intelligence Committee’s public hearings began, no one, even in the White House, has said anything like, “He wouldn’t do that!” or “That would be so unlike him.” His best friends know he would do it and it’s exactly like him.

    As to impeachment itself, the case has been so clearly made you wonder what exactly the Senate will be left doing. How will they hold a lengthy trial with a case this clear? Who exactly will be the president’s witnesses, those who’d testify he didn’t do what he appears to have done, and would never do it?

The case seems to make Schiff the target for Republicans.  I think Schiff is shifty too, but there still is quid pro quo.  Even Mulvaney admitted it.  So making this about Schiff doesn't change that fact.

1. Treaty passed under Clinton empowers the Potus to act with Ukraine precisely as Trump did.

2. "Muscle" is what leaders do, in their individual ways.

FDR and Churchill negotiated when and how US aid would arrive in Europe, for their nations' mutual benefit. They both had political advisors shouting in their ears, but the final decisions were for those two, alone.

TDS has many debilitating cognitive side-effects; namely suppression of common sense (if they ever had any).  People suffering from TDS, have no useful contribution, and should not sit at the adult table.

We have a bunch of so-called witnesses who have no first hand knowledge, have all admitted there was no laws broken, and the media keeps up the pearl clutching and moral pooh-poohing trying to create an alternative reality.

It's just desperate grasping now to find a crime, just like the Mueller investigation.
