Woman who threw drink at Gaetz gets jail time

Rep. Matt Gaetz celebrated the news on Monday that the woman who threw a sports drink at him had been sentenced to 15 days in prison for the attack.

"Physical assault has no place in our political discourse," Gaetz said. "I am grateful that law enforcement and our judicial system recognized this principle today."

During a campaign event in June, Amanda Kondrat'yev threw a red drink at the congressman from the Florida panhandle. She was there along with other protesters who shouted at him and held signs telling him to "wipe the blood off his hands" and shamed him for his "A+" rating from the NRA.

I'm glad Gaetz didn't just let it go. These nuts need to start being held accountable for their non-stop temper tantrums.

Hopefully this was a misdemeanor conviction, i.e. a criminal record.

She was convicted in a federal court.  (They will let her serve her time in the County lockup)  So it might be a felony.

I wouldn't mind that either, though the two week sentence suggested misdemeanor to me. I just don't want her to have gotten off with an "infraction", which means no criminal record. With a criminal record, if she lies to a prospective employer by saying she has never been arrested or convicted, the record will expose her lie.

Yes, I'm that "vindictive". No, I don't care whether the assaulted pol is a Dem or an R.

It is not vindictive to demand that people act civilly in a lawful society. The leftist 3 yr. temper tantrum has to be stopped. The only way to stop it is to force people to be held accountable for their behavior.

Without going back and rereading it I think she could have gotten 1 year for this offense.   So it did carry some weight.
