Supreme Court erases Michigan gerrymandering ruling
« on: November 06, 2019, 02:57:09 pm »
The high court’s move was expected, since the justices decided in June that federal courts can’t rein in politicians who draw political maps to entrench a partisan advantage.

If it had stood, Michigan would have had to redraw state legislative and congressional districts ahead of the 2020 elections, and it could have set up a more favorable battlefield for House Democrats.

If a well-regulated militia be the most natural defense of a free country, it ought certainly to be under the regulation and at the disposal of that body which is constituted the guardian of the national security.

Good news.  "Bipartisan Commissions" that draw District boundaries are far from "Non-Partisan."  We have that in AZ, and the Rats always seem to end up in control of the pen.
For unvaccinated, we are looking at a winter of severe illness and death — if you’re unvaccinated — for themselves, their families, and the hospitals they’ll soon overwhelm. Sloe Joe Biteme 12/16
I will NOT comply.

ARIZONA REDISTRICTING
"Mission: The Independent Redistricting Commission's mission is to redraw Arizona’s congressional and legislative districts to reflect the results of the most recent census. The concept of one-person, one-vote dictates that districts should be roughly equal in population. Other factors to be considered are the federal Voting Rights Act, district shape, geographical features, respect for communities of interest and potential competitiveness. The state Constitution requires the commissioners – two Republicans, two Democrats and an independent chairwoman – to start from scratch rather than redraw existing districts."

Sounds really good on paper, until you find out the only non-partisan aligned prospective Commissioners are Democrats. That permanently tilts the playing field to the Rats.  Republicans usually declare as Republicans, but Democrats often declare as "Independent."  This is especially common in states that have Primaries that permit Independents to choose a Party on Election Day, like AZ.

We've never had a Redistricting Commission that was not slanted to the Rats, 3-2.  This goes a long way toward explaining why a Republican-tilting state like AZ can consistently send more Rats than GOP Congresscritters to DeeCee.
