LONDON — The 39 people found dead in the back of a truck in England were Chinese nationals, police said Thursday.

The truck and its trailer, which are believed to have entered the country separately, were found by ambulance workers at Waterglade Industrial Park in Grays on Wednesday. Grays is about 20 miles east of London.

All 39 people found were pronounced dead at the scene. Eight of the dead are women, including a young woman police initially said was a teenager, and 31 are men, police said.

I assume, they died per lack-of-air. I'm not sure if any of the reports are telling us this.

From what I've heard, it was a refrigerated trailer, so suffocation sounds likely.

The late Lee Rodgers used to call China "Communism with a Happy Face". That latter seems to be changing.

These kinds of stories are almost too heartbreaking to repeat, I read all of this at the BBC, many of those if not all are Vietnamese.

One girl was on the cell-phone with her parents from the container saying she didn't think they'd get out.

Also, some people are having some or all of the money they paid, refunded, I know that sounds strange at this time. They paid about $3,500 to come.

There SHOULD be risks for those who try to get themselves smuggled into Western nations in this manner.

A price that sometimes must be paid.

These people paid it.

The BBC report on radio said a lot of Asians like this will go work in those nail salons, I certainly give a double take when I see those places. A great tragedy.

Police hunt for brothers from Northern Ireland over truck deaths

LONDON (Reuters) - British police were hunting on Tuesday for two brothers from Northern Ireland whom they described as “crucial” to an investigation into the deaths of 39 people found in the back of a truck near London last week.

The discovery of the bodies in a refrigerated truck on an industrial estate near London has shone a spotlight on the illicit trade that sends the poor of Asia, Africa and the Middle East on perilous journeys to the West.

The 39 victims - 31 men and eight women - have yet to be identified but Vietnam said it was trying to accelerate the process. It fears many of the dead were its citizens.

The truck went from Northern Ireland to Europe and picked up the people.

Busts of these kinds of refrigerated trucks carrying immigrants is not totally uncommon, thankfully, they usually catch them. They caught a truck with 8 people in it the other day.
