Breaking News: Suspected Missiles Hit Iranian-Owned Oil Tanker Off Saudi Coast

Iran's official IRNA news agency says two explosion, likely to be missiles have struck an Iran-owned oil tanker setting it ablaze off Saudi Arabia's coast, off the port city of Jeddah.

I saw something on this earlier, could this have been staged by Iran?  Hypothesizing that the missiles or bombs were already on-board and the tanker exploded?  And why would this tanker be so close to Saudi Arabia?  Or, I guess, this article questions whether this actually even happened, a photo of a previous accident in the "Iranian news reporting" and then, Reuters took it from there. I've got to think this didn't even happen!

Strange Contradictions In The Story Of The Alleged Attack On An Iranian Tanker In The Red Sea

....

The international media quickly picked up rapid-fire reports from Iranian media, which soon proved to be full of contradictions, negations and even the use of photos from incidents in the past. No independent source confirmed the report and no reporters were in the middle of the Red Sea to see the “damaged” tanker.

The first report that an Iranian vessel was hit in the Red was reported by Reuters at 7:14 CET. The message read, “AN EXPLOSION IN AN IRANIAN TANKER HAS SET THE NIOC-OWNED VESSEL ON FIRE NEAR SAUDI PORT CITY OF JEDDAH – ISNA.”

Major Western agencies AP, AFP and Reuters continued to quote Iranian media outlets such as ISNA that claimed the tanker had suffered heavy damage and was leaking oil “some 60 miles from Jeddah”, according to unnamed sources.
