Is Trump At Last Ending Our 'Endless Wars'?

The backstage struggle between the Bush interventionists and the America-firsters who first backed Donald Trump for president just exploded into open warfare, which could sunder the Republican Party.

At issue is Trump's decision to let the Turkish army enter Northern Syria, to create a corridor between Syrian Kurds and the Turkish Kurds of the PKK, which the U.S. and Turkey regard as a terrorist organization.

"A disaster in the making," says Lindsey Graham. "To abandon the Kurds" would be a "stain on America's honor."

"A catastrophic mistake," said Rep. Liz Cheney.

Create a corridor?  Does anyone really think all the Turks will do is seize an area along the Syrian/Turkish border to keep the Syrian Kurds who have been some of our most loyal allies from communicating with the PKK?  If Erdgoan really just wanted a militarized buffer to prevent cooperation between Kurdish groups in Turkey and outside Turkey he could so that within Turkey.

Betraying allies is not a way to put an end to endless wars, but a way to ensure there will be more wars without end.  (Cf. the British betrayal of the Arabs whom Lawrence rallied to the Allied cause in WWI, to back the House of Saud, which laid the foundation for most of the chaos in the Middle-East to this day.)  Of course realizing this requires historical literacy, something in short supply in the White House these days. (And alas, improved foreign policy does not seem to be a possible up-side to the domestic policy disaster a Democrat win in 2020 would represent -- only the politically hopeless Tsuli Gabbard seems to have a clue and she'll never get the nomination.)

We've been directly involved militarily in Syria since April 2017. Per Trump's announcement we're pulling approximately 1000 soldiers out of northern Syria.

Just a little perspective here.
