NL Wild Card Game---Live Thread

Already the Brewers are on the board---a leadoff walk, then a two-run homer (former Dodger Yasmani Grandal) in the top of the first.

Brewers 2, Nationals coming to bat with Trea Turner, Adam Eaton, and Anthony Rendon . . .

Uh oh. Eric Thames led off the top of the second hitting one over the right center field fence. 3-0 Brewers hitting in the second, Max Scherzer in hot water early . . .

Yep.  Seven pitches in is pretty early.

Looks to me like the Nats at the plate are also making one of the worst mistakes they've made in postseason win-or-be-gone games past---swinging as if trying to hit six-run homers with each swing. Bad idea.

Right now Woodruff is making them look really bad.

. . . and, a wasted one-out base hit (Howie Kendrick), Kurt Suzuki sends Ryan Braun to the left field wall for the third out . . . 3-0, Brewers after two . . .

Trey Turner can turn on any fastball.

@EasyAce

See what I mean, though?

They're following the Orioles/Brewers script.   Palmer got tagged for 2 'harmless' ones too.

And finally, somebody barrelled up on this guy.

Looking forward to the bottom of the 4th.    :2popcorn:

I'm waiting to see how soon the Brewers go to the bullpen.

I'm also aghast to be reminded that, in Max Scherzer's last four postseason starts, his teams lost.

This could be a very interesting evening.

Looks like Strasburg is coming into the game (Hudson sat down near the beginning of the half inning) . . . Brian Dozier pinch hits for Max Scherzer.

Moustakas steals a hit but throws in a hurry, pulls Thames off the pad and he dives back to the pad to no avail, Dozier is safe, the Nats have first and second with two out in the bottom of the fifth . . .

A leadoff single, a dial of Area Code 5-6-3 into the left-side shift, and a swinging strikeout, and Strasburg zips though the top of the sixth. But it's still 3-1, Brewers . . .

The Brewers bring in Drew Pomeranz . . . and Pomeranz erases the Nats 1-2-3 in the bottom of the sixth. Still 3-1, Brewers . . .

And the Nationals take the lead in the bottom of the eighth! 4-3!

It went:

One out, pinch hitter Michael A. Taylor hit by a pitch.
Trea Turner with a swinging strikeout.
Pinch hitter Ryan Zimmerman singled up the pipe and came out for a pinch hitter
Anthony Rendon walked to load the pillows.
Juan Soto whacked a base hit to right . . . and the ball got by Grisham playing right clearing the bases, leaving Soto to be thrown out at third trying to stretch it,
but the Nats came all the way back plus one in the bottom of the eighth and off the Brewers' best relief pitcher.
