NEWTON — A day after forming a campaign committee for a possible U.S. Senate run, U.S. Rep. Joseph Kennedy III sounded liked a candidate as he spoke Tuesday afternoon at the Newton Fire Department Headquarters.

“Our country is facing a critical test with Donald Trump in office — for what he presents and represents every day as a threat to so many of the values we are fighting for,” Kennedy told reporters.

The Democratic party must address the “fractures and fissures” that were in place before President Trump was elected, he said. “We have to respond to those fissures that gave him rise in the first place.”

Kennedy, 38, is weighing a challenge against fellow Democrat U.S. Sen. Ed Markey, 73, who was first elected to the Senate in 2013. He already has two primary challengers – labor lawyer Shannon Liss-Riordan and human resources executive Steve Pemberton.  ...
