I think so. The 'native garden area' was all wild plants indigenous to the area, but out of the way, in a coulee with some water through most of the summer.  I would think settlers left some there because they could benefit from that, too, and I'd just about bet on some medicinal plants near there growing wild, too.

That would be a terrific project... I think I would try finding that sort of thing over in the high desert over in OR/WA, where things are less disturbed, and waterholes are even more critical, forming a concentrated zone.

Even in your neck of the woods, where there are nut trees or berry bushes growing wild, you might find something. Once you know one variety of wild plant is there, check nearby for something else that may ripen at a different time. If you find it, you may be on to something.  Most settlers would see something 'growing wild' as a bonus. Some might even encourage that growth and transplant some to make an orchard, but that could be a sign to look for the assemblage. Here, we have Juneberry, chokecherry, Wild Plum, raspberries, "Indian turnips" and wild onion, and Bilberry (aka buffaloberry), in order of ripening with the latter only really ready around first frost. Most of the berries are suitable for making pemmican.

A lot of medicinal plants are seen as weeds by most, but include raspberries, nettles, shepherd's purse, lavender, plantain, and others commonly recognized as having medicinal value. Willow bark is prized for making tea (painkiller, similar to aspirin).

The face value of all the sheets I have is $3,008.  I've paid more for art.

The value of art typically goes up over time, while the value of currency ALWAYS goes down.
If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power.

Sounds like "blue bucks" (exchanged for the old green ones).

Yeah... I know quite a bit of that up in here too - I use willow bark all the time., and most of what you mentioned is already in my ken But I do admit to not having paid attention to any garden scenario... If I can get back at it, that will be on my mind.

I am hoping to be back out this fall - Thankfully, not a whiff of smoke this year... Been wet enough that fire hazard ain't too bad, and just a couple weeks till September rains are likely... Smoke is what shut me down the last two summers... So hopefully, I will walk right through the winter this year and come out the other side hale and hearty (good Lord willin)

But if it goes along, I should be able to go out this fall to harvest chaga and amadou - something I have not done in a decade or more.

It probably would be more important to me if I intend to spend the currency I have under glass.  I did not buy it as an investment, that would be stupid.

I have heard of a smaller 25 acre fire down by Whitehall, but nothing up where I think you are.

Yeah - there is still a threat-level, according to USFS, but way down comparatively. Normally we are in 'extreme' season, with the woods shut off... and since the feds decimated the logging industry, fires have been the norm, with the valley filling up with smoke for the entire month of August. Last year it came early and left late.

So, yeah! Very grateful for the reprieve.  Shoot, my lawn is still green and growing. I doubt a bad smoke could happen now, with rain coming again tomorrow, and another week of 70's with it...

LOL! I don't miss living under a red sun, either. We usually have serious haze from wildfires out west, sometimes to the point where you can only see a few hundred yards (instead of 20 miles) and can smell the smoke like the neighbor's woodpile is on fire. This year we haven't had that, and it has been a blessing.
