The Deep State wins?

President Donald Trump says Rep. John Ratcliffe will no longer be nominated as director of national intelligence to replace Dan Coats.

"Our great Republican Congressman John Ratcliffe is being treated very unfairly by the LameStream Media," Trump wrote on Twitter.

"Rather than going through months of slander and libel, I explained to John how miserable it would be for him and his family to deal with these people John has therefore decided to stay in Congress where he has done such an outstanding job representing the people of Texas, and our Country.

Thanks for posting this - I just heard it on CNN.  Appears his resume was padded; he listed things he did not do.  No word on the new one, yet.

Um...not exactly. The guy didn't have the qualifications for the job.  It's only right that everyone be made aware of that and that he not be put in that job.

Trump does as many presidents have done before him -- hire or nominate campaign donors, family members, friends, fraternity brothers, golfing buddies, etc. etc. -- not because the person has the qualifications, experience and expertise to do the job.  It's a lousy practice and it should stop.

So, now he suddenly cares what the MSM says? BS. Republicans in the Senate got word to him that he was going to face tough questions from both sides. They knew it wouldn’t have gone well. Listen to the first four minutes of this video. Trump complains about the media treatment, but says they are instrumental in vetting his candidates. He admits Ratcliffe wasn’t in the intel world very long, which is actually the biggest problem with the appointment. He says it would be a months long process, but that’s got nothing to do with the media. In such an important position, the Republican majority would find a way to fast track a great nominee.

I disagree.  Circle gets the square.

@Absalom ...   This is what vetting is for.  You have a problem with the President' decision?

President Donald Trump's pick for the next director of national intelligence, Rep. John Ratcliffe, R-Texas, has misrepresented his role in an anti-terrorism case that he's repeatedly cited among his credentials related to national security issues.

The apparent embellishment is related to two anti-terrorism financing trials in a case known as the U.S. v. Holy Land Foundation, the second of which resulted in convictions for several individuals found to have illegally funneled charity money to the U.S.-designated terrorist group Hamas.

In a 2015 press release, Ratcliffe's House website stated, "When serving by special appointment in U.S. v. Holy Land Foundation, he convicted individuals who were funneling money to Hamas behind the front of a charitable organization."

His official campaign website, in a February 2016 post, also touted his "special appointment as the prosecutor in U.S. v. Holy Land Foundation, one of the nation's largest terrorism financing cases."

But ABC News could find no public court records that connect Ratcliffe to either of the two trials for the case. Former officials directly involved in the decade-long Holy Land Foundation investigation could not recall Ratcliffe having any role, and four former defense attorneys who served on the cases told ABC News on Monday they had no recollection of Ratcliffe being involved with any of the proceedings that resulted in the convictions of their clients.

The problem is his judgment. Ratcliffe wasn’t properly qualified for the job. Plus, the president should have known this through internal vetting, before making an announcement, then saying the media was being unfair to Ratcliffe, when they’re the ones that discovered the embellishments.

Ouch!  That must have been hard on Trump.  The guy was all in.  Didn't William Barr recommend him?
AG William Barr: "I'm recused from that matter because one of the law firms that represented Epstein long ago was a firm that I subsequently joined for a period of time."

Alexander Acosta Labor Secretary resigned under pressure concerning his "sweetheart deal" with Jeffrey Epstein.  He was under consideration for AG after Sessions was removed, but was forced to resign instead.
