The Senate on Thursday passed a bill to increase the U.S. budget and lift the debt ceiling for the next two years. The spending deal now heads to the Oval Office to be signed by President Donald Trump. The legislation passed 67-28, with 23 Republicans and five Democrats voting against the bill. Its passage in Congress — shortly before senators leave Capitol Hill for the August recess — will push off the threat of a financial crisis and automatic spending cuts that were set to kick in.The bill passed the House last week despite weak support from Republicans, even after Trump urged them to vote for the deal.
Here are the 23 GOP senators who opposed the deal: Marsha Blackburn (Tenn.)Mike Braun (Ind.) Bill Cassidy (La.)Tom Cotton (Ark.)Ted Cruz (Texas)Steve Daines (Mont.)Mike Enzi (Wyo.)Deb Fischer (Neb.)Cory Gardner (Colo.)Josh Hawley (Mo.)Ron Johnson (Wis.)John Kennedy (La.)James Lankford (Okla.)Mike Lee (Utah)Rand Paul (Ky.)Jim Risch (Idaho)Mitt Romney (Utah)Marco Rubio (Fla.)Ben Sasse (Neb.)Rick Scott (Fla.)Tim Scott (S.C.)Thom Tillis (N.C.)Pat Toomey (Pa.)
We really need a Tea Party revival! If President Trump doesn't even try for a balanced budget (better yet a surplus to start paying down the $22 Trillion) then I am thinking no president ever will. No learning from history? This never ends well.
He'll sign it...after saying he wouldn't sign another deficit expanding budget like this again. No funding for the wall. And we'll all get told how great it is.
He's out at another of his "rock star" rallies tonight, playing to his adoring fans who really don't care about the debt/deficit and will swallow any lie he might tell them about this so-called "budget."
