More than 500 immigrants were returned to Mexico on Monday as part of the Migrant Protection Protocols, also known as the "Remain in Mexico" plan.
The MPP is a U.S. government action where certain foreign individuals entering or seeking admission to the U.S. from Mexico, illegally or without proper documentation, may be returned to Mexico and wait outside of the United States for the duration of their immigration proceedings, according to the Department of Homeland Security.
