The pressure is ramping up for Democratic presidential hopefuls who hope to take on President Donald Trump next year. Here's a brief look at who is battling for the nomination in the 2020 election. By Alex Roarty | Patrick Gleason

Bob Buckhorn remembers sitting at home in Florida last month watching the first Democratic presidential debate — and openly worrying about what he was seeing.

The former centrist Democratic mayor of Tampa said the candidates were lurching much too far to the left on key policy issues, damaging the party’s chances of defeating President Donald Trump during next year’s election.

This was predictable from the time George McGovern won the Dem nomination for president in '72 with a far left program that wouldn't be much different than Bernie Sanders's or Liz Warren's agendas.
The far left tilt of the Dem Party over the past fifty years is why conservative, southern whites shifted allegiance from the Dem Party to the Republican Party despite most of the segregationist southern senators of those times staying in the Dem Party.
That gives a lie to the myth of the "southern strategy" as devised by Kevin Phillips who invented the phrase.  Phillips decided Richard Nixon had used dog whistle statements to get southern whites to vote Republican. Law and order was supposedly a racist phrase.
But southern whites had been drifting towards the Republican Party since the Eisenhower admin. It was inevitable that they would ditch a Dem Party that would rapidly turn full bore leftist and anti-Christian.
