Body of India’s ‘coffee king’ recovered after massive search

Indian authorities said that the body of entrepreneur VG Siddhartha, the businessman known as the “coffee king of India,” has been recovered from the Nethravathi river in southern Karnataka state.

Mr Siddhartha, the founder of India’s largest coffee retail chain Café Coffee Day, disappeared on Monday evening after getting out of his car and telling his driver that he wanted to walk across a bridge over the Nethravathi river. His driver sounded the alarm when he failed to return.

The confirmation of the businessman’s death raises questions over the future of Coffee Day Enterprises, the Bombay Stock Exchange-listed company in which Mr Siddhartha, his wife and affiliated entities held a combined 53 percent.
