US Coast Guard members intercepted a “narco-submarine” carrying 7,700 kilograms of cocaine as it raced through the Pacific Ocean, underscoring a spike in this method of drug transport.

In a dramatic video released July 11, a Coast Guard cutter is shown pulling alongside the speeding semi-submersible. Guard members then jump aboard the vessel, and one pounded on the hatch until it opened. The operation, which took place on June 18, ended with the arrest of five smugglers and the seizure of the cocaine valued at $232 million.

The US Coast Guard has seen an uptick in these vessels recently. In a span of two months in 2017, the Coast Guard stopped seven “low-profile drug smuggling vessels,” according to a news release, seizing around 10,300 kilograms of cocaine worth more than $306 million.

Sounds like an opportunity for the Coasties to do some anti-submarine training. Skip the boarding and unlimber some fire power.

I think it would be some piss-poor anti-sub training. They are just way too loud compared normal subs.

Unidentified submerged vessels in or approaching U.S. territorial waters?

Take them out!

In time, those who would be crewing such narco-subs would decide it's a bad idea...
