The "jump the shark" moment for Ted Cruz was, as we all know, at the convention.  No one forced him not to endorse Donald Trump, he decided this all on his own.  Cruz was given a spotlight to be the "bigger man" and earn a badge of honor that would have swept him back into office in 2018.  Ted Cruz chose otherwise.

Instead of putting the good of the country ahead of his hurt feelings, with those infamous three words Cruz asked his devotees to stand with him and support his tantrum.  In that moment Cruz told Republicans that a President Hillary Clinton was acceptable.  It cost donors and voter support he would have to fight to get back, and it's evident he did a poor job of this.  Ted Cruz, not Donald Trump, etched in stone "Lyin' Ted".

And here's the piece de resistance --- Donald Trump, always accused of being a lesser man, put the country ahead of his displeasure with Ted Cruz and personally dragged Ted's ass across the finish line in 2018.  After Ted's backstabbing at the convention, I imagine Ted's loss would have brought a private smile to Donald Trump.  But the President did what was right for the party and the country.  This is the glaring difference between the two men.

Abbott winning by a 13 point margin to Cruz's 3 point margin proves Ted Cruz is being disingenuous when he claims his razor thin victory was about turnout. It also proves Ted has learned nothing. No one can fault the President for this.

@Sanguine

??? Cruz told people to vote their conscience. I believe his integrity was on display and cerntainly took courage to say what he did.  I remember watching the convention and thinking to myself "Ted don't you dare endorse him"...some of of us like a man with some integrity and dignity.

Ted backstabbing at the convention?  Try again.  The RNC didn't allow for the final roll count vote by the delegates.

Anyways ... Ted won his re-election.  We're still waiting to see if Trump wins his.

Not surprisingly, @Right_in_Virginia we disagree not only on the facts, but the interpretation of those facts.  I'm not going to get into a pissing contest with you; the results are never pleasant.

Hmmm.... I'm not sure, @Sanguine

I read her 'Hammer meet Nail' post twice...it was so good.   It was "good" because it is undeniable.

Those are the facts as I know them to be. Ted Cruz made it clear. Instead of saying, “Vote for Donald J Trump,” he said “Vote your conscience.” Pretty clear to me. His butt was still aching.

By the way, in case I hadn’t made it clear before, even though I did not support his candidacy, if Ted Cruz had won the primary, I would have been his biggest booster in the general (even though I felt he could not win in a general election against the Hildebeast).

Take that Ted Cruz NeverTrumpers.

Why is it when I present a cogent rebuttal it's called a "pissing contest"?  The three facts I presented are supported, not by interpretation, but by outcomes.

Perhaps the best way to end the "pissing contests" is for you to put me on ignore.

We all would have voted for Cruz had he won the nomination.  And Trump would have said the same at the convention @aligncare

It really is country first for Trump and his supporters.  President Hillary Clinton was unthinkable.

I predicted this in 2016 a bunch of Trumpers declaring their felinity (H/T @Gefn) to Sen Cruz.
It's BS, you people would be sending $$$ to Biden about this time, had Cruz won.

Well, I'm a huge Cruz supporter, vowed to not vote for Trump, yet I did vote my conscience as Ted suggested and cast my vote for Trump in order to stop Hillary.  I will likely vote Trump in 2020 to stop the radical leftists, so put that in your Rice Krispies.

You cannot "COEXIST" with people who want to kill you.
If they kill their own with no conscience, there is nothing to stop them from killing you.

A number of Trump supporters are sore winners.  Their guy won in 2016, but they still have some butthurt against Ted Cruz and anyone who supported him.   Never mind that since then, Ted "boarded the Trump Train" and has supported Trump.  These people don't forgive and they don't forget.

Very true.  I am an avid supporter of Cruz, but I have given credit and praise to Trump when due.  It is no secret that I (and others) think that he has royally failed on the border.  Not quite sure why the Trump supporters still have a butt hurt against Ted.  It's really petty and ridiculous. Trump is going to need all the votes that he can muster in 2020; including those from Cruz supporters.  All Cruz did was say that Trump has a 50-50 of winning or losing; I didn't see his comment offensive in the least.  He is of course, right again.

The point is, some GOP regulars put their distaste for Trump’s personality, over the 2016 voters, and (in my opinion) against the good of the country. And yet, with political battle lines clearly drawn: socialism vs capitalism, political correctness and social justice vs traditional American values of faith, family and freedom they still harbor tremendous animus towards Trump, because he upset the establishment—RNC and DNC, republicans and democrats—apple cart. He wasn’t supposed to catch on, but he damn well did!

Well, that may be, but my reservations about Trump are because of some of the boneheaded tweets and comments he's made which show lack of moral character, his failure at the border, and his backpedaling on issues every time it seems he opens his mouth.  Yet, I will still plan to vote for him.  IMHO he's not been a stellar President, but even with his flaws he's done some good and above all else, the radical left must not succeed.
