I get that there is only so much that Trump can do to fulfill his campaign promises and that he needs congress to "get 'er done". But I sill think he could have worked with congress to accomplish his stated goals. As president, he should have enough clout to sit down with party leaders and say ok, how can we do this? He might have even been able to hammer out some bipartisan deals -- really bipartisan, not the ones during the Obama era where the Republicans gave the Democrats everything and received nothing in return.
But Trump couldn't even work with leaders of his own party. From the beginning, he insulted them and blamed them for whatever was wrong. No one is going to be willing to work with someone who starts out a working relationship by browbeating the people he should be working with. Much of the time Trump wouldn't meet with them at all, let alone with the Democrats. The few times he did meet, he stomped his feet, threw a tantrum and walked out when he didn't get his way. That is not leadership. That is not getting things done.
When the Democrats rammed Obamacare down our throats, it was a more coordinated effort. Seemed like, for the most part, they were all on the same page and everyone played a part. Obama even did his part -- selling this crappy legislation to the people. I didn't see the infighting, the hissy fits, the staged controversies and the general laziness that plague this presidency and congressional Republicans. Republicans can't even agree on the time of day.
And I doubt any of them really want to work together. They really have no intention of keeping their promises to the voters. Seems to me they all just sit on their lazy duffs and collect their salaries and benefits. Or at least they did. Now that the house has been lost to the Democrats and they face a possibly uphill fight to retain control of the senate and even get Trump re-elected, they are all suddenly coming out of the woodwork and pretending that now, they are really going to address the issues like they promised even before 2016. The theme now is, if we give them continued control of the senate and the presidency and maybe retake the house in a couple of years -- this time they are really going to keep their promises.
sorry, guys, but I'm tired of the broken promises, tired of the fighting, tired of the same issues plaguing this country and everyone pointing fingers at everyone else. No one is absolved of responsibility. Congressional Republicans didn't do their part and neither did Trump.
