Fallout from assault on conservative journalist in Portland, Oregon.

Authorities in Portland, Ore., are calling for a series of laws to curb violent clashes at demonstrations that include prohibiting masks worn by protesters, allowing police to videotape demonstrations and giving the city greater control over events organized by groups with violent histories.

“We cannot allow people to continue to use the guise of free speech to commit a crime,’’ police Chief Danielle Outlaw said in a Wednesday news conference addressing last week's violence that occurred when three competing demonstrations converged downtown.

Frankly,I am surprised that people have been allowed to wear masks at protests. Since the idea of going to protest something means you want your thinking known, wearing a mask defeats the purpose of going there.

Masks aren't even a down payment on it,though. When people start showing up carrying long poles, wooden clubs,or similar weapons while wearing a mask,a helmet, and a catcher's mask, they are there to fight and suppress the voices of their political opponents, not make their voices heard. This must NOT be allowed to happen. If it does, the ultimate result will be the anarchy the leftist leadership dreams of and why they already have plans on how to leave the country and where to go to wait it out until the violence ends.

The WANT the violence like a starving man wants a meal, but they just don't want for them or their families to get caught up in it themselves. After all.they are the intellectual leadership that will take control of the New World Order and give everyone else their marching orders,so they must NOT be harmed.

Long overdue.  Politicians are always the last to screw their heads on and make decisions for society.

Odd wording here since the ones committing the violence (Antifa) weren't the ones with the permits.  Portland will use this as an excuse to deny future permits to Conservatives, effectively blaming them for Antifa violence.
If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power.     -Dwight Eisenhower-

"The [U.S.] Constitution is a limitation on the government, not on private individuals ... it does not prescribe the conduct of private individuals, only the conduct of the government ... it is not a charter for government power, but a charter of the citizen's protection against the government."     -Ayn Rand-

Good catch, @Hoodat!  Wheeler will never allow any action that would force his shock troops to unmask.  He would be thrilled with a policy that would allow him to ban any conservative protesting.
