I can see farmers (mostly) disappearing. Their children grow up privileged these days, and don't want to farm because they consider it a low-class job despite the wealth it created for them.
A local farmer decided to sell off his farm land this year because his "boy" (in his 30's) wanted a white collar job. Sold off all his equipment already, and has the farm broken up into different sized plots depending on location. The truth is that farm equipment is so expensive these days that if you sell off your equipment you might as well sell off your land because it would be tough to justify spending the replacement cost.
Don't feel too sorry for him, though. He inherited it all from his father, and one of the plots he is selling is 100 acres right on a 4 lane highway on one side, and a large body of water on the other. The side facing the highway is zoned "multi-use",and the other is waterfront property. Not much danger of him or his "boy" going hungry.
BTW,his "boy" is a total asshat. To the point where even the father admits it now. Only child mama's boy. Nobody has ever accused the father of being lazy, though. If he wasn't farming,he was working at some other trade.
