The head of the Syrian regime, Bashar al-Assad, offered Turkish President Recep Tayyip ErdoÄŸan a meeting with him, by telling a Turkish journalist, despite Erdogan's repeated assertion that he rejected the meeting and described Assad as a criminal and a butcher.

Assad held a closed press meeting with media representatives on 8 May. The meeting was attended by the journalist of the Turkish newspaper "Aidenlik", Mohammed Yoffa.

"We are open to cooperation with Turkey ... If it suits Syria's interests and does not infringe on its sovereignty, we can meet Erdogan," he said.

The head of the Syrian regime said that his delegation met with the head of the Turkish intelligence service, "Hakan Fidan" in the Iranian capital Tehran, in addition to another meeting at the border "Kasap" border city.
