Bush Admin Sold ‘American Taliban’ John Walker Lindh’s Plea Deal As A Win For America. Now He’s Free

George W. Bush’s administration touted “American Taliban” John Walker Lindh’s plea deal as a victory for America.
The administration dropped the toughest charges against Lindh, while insisting it could have proven them.
17 years later, Lindh is free as a result of that plea deal and experts are concerned he might still pose a threat.

Former President George W. Bush’s administration sold the 2002 plea deal with John Walker Lindh, an American who joined the Taliban, as a victory in the war on terror that would make the American people safer.

But 17 years later, Lindh is out of prison, and his praise for terrorists while in prison has experts concerned he might still pose a threat.

Lindh originally faced up to life in prison under the original 10 charges brought by the Bush administration, which included conspiring to kill Americans.

So there was a plea deal.  I wondered about that since I couldn't find anything before that said why Lindh was not tried and convicted on more serious charges.    Who in the administration ordered this deal?  Was it President Bush himself?  The AG?

Inquiring minds want to know.

A little insight on the real John Walker Lindh:

1. The only reason Lindh didn't spend the rest of his life in prison is due to his plea deal. He gave intell in order to escape a life sentence, and YES what he did justified him never seeing anything but bars and grey walls for the rest of his life. +

2. Lindh traveled all over looking for the most radical jihadists to fight with. He eventually landed in Pakistan and joined Harakut ul-Mujahideen (HUM). They are a designated terror group allied with al Qaeda. He moved on from HUM and went to Afghanistan. +

3. Lindh was NEVER an "American Taliban". He was AL QAEDA. He went straight to Osama Bin Laden's training facility called Al-Farooq. Lindh personally met OBL. Lindh was given the option of overseas terror or fighting on the front lines. He chose front lines. +

4. Lindh knew that OBL had sent jihadists to the United States for an attack. After 9/11 Lindh was assigned to an Al Qaeda unit designed to protect OBL and protect Al Qadea SPECIFICALLY against retaliatory attacks from the United States. The unit was called 055 Brigade.

5. 055 Brigade was an Al Qaeda unit fighting ALONGSIDE the Taliban... not a Taliban unit fighting with Al Qaeda.

6. CIA Agent Johnny Spann was killed by Al Qaeda fighters that Lindh was fighting with. He wasn't in the wrong place at the wrong time as the author suggests. He KNEW the attack was happening. He was part of it.

And GWB freed the terrorist years early.    No one noticed that GWB was in charge again.

No idea who this "No one" is of which you speak.  Most Briefers are older than 12.
