House approves anti-LGBT discrimination bill

The House on Friday for the first time approved legislation banning anti-LGBT discrimination in a 236-173 vote.

The Equality Act would expand the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Fair Housing Act to ban discrimination in employment, housing, jury selection and public accommodations based on sexual orientation and gender identity.

“This legislation will provide members of LGBTQ Americans protections from being denying medical care or being fired or thrown out of their homes,” House Judiciary Chairman Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.) said on the floor ahead of the vote.

He said the bill would expand the definition of “who is understood to be included in the Declaration of Independence.”

Time for some horse trading.    The Equality Act is worthy of support,  but only if conservatives get the "dead on arrival" changes they want to the asylum rules and otherwise to address the crisis at the border.

Let's see how much the Dems really care about homosexual rights.

Eight Republicans in the House sided against their party and with Democrats in a Friday vote on legislation banning anti-LGBT discrimination.

The eight Republicans who backed the Equality Act, which opponents cast as anti-religious freedom, were Reps. Susan Brooks (Ind.), Mario Diaz-Balart (Fla.), Brian Fitzpatrick (Pa.) Will Hurd (Texas), John Katko(N.Y.), Tom Reed (N.Y.), Elise Stefanik (N.Y.) and Greg Walden (Ore.).

Hurd, Fitzpatrick and Katko all represent competitive districts, according to the Cook Political Report.

Diaz-Balart in FL should switch parties.  I can't remember the last time he voted along with the GOP.

Conservatives should be about the individual, not just some random label. ALL people should be protected and have truly equal rights, no matter who they are; they shouldn't be shoved into boxes with labels the government applies. The government labeling and tracking of certain groups- even for their so-called 'own good' is the antithesis of Conservativism (at least it used to be).

Protection of a group at the expense of another group is definitely immoral.

There is right and wrong in this world, whether you see it or not.

And it is immoral to 'horse-trade' such.

I am so glad to see the House concentrated on the key issues of the day.  I thought the LBGT group were granted all this years ago with legislation.  Now we need more with all the issues confronting this nation.  The Dems are idiots, one and all.  How anyone can vote for a Democommie I will never understand.

This legislation allows boys/men who are trans, yet still physically male to compete as girls/women.  Biggest bunch of lunnacy I have seen.

   Though this may save the WNBA from obscurity it would decimate competitive Women's Sports at all levels. 
   Have no fear, Cocaine Mitch wont even bring this up for a vote.
