LONDON — May 8, 2019

For decades, a missing piece of sarsen stone from England’s famed Stonehenge monument was thought to have been lost during archaeological excavations. This week, the organization that takes care of Stonehenge announced the missing stone had been returned by a man living in Florida.

Researchers say the discovery could help uncover the origin of Stonehenge, which dates back to 3000 BC and is one of the world’s most visited ancient monuments.

“The last thing we ever expected was to get a call from someone in America telling us they had a piece of Stonehenge,” said Heather Sebire, the Stonehenge curator for English Heritage, the caretaker organization.

In the past, an article was posted how there is actually a Stonehenge in Italy as well.

'Sicilian Stonehenge' discovered by amateur archaeologists

A group of friends stumbled across an unusual arrangement of stones in Sicily, which experts have now confirmed form a prehistoric sundial dating back to the Bronze Age.

"Making an archaeological discovery is in itself an important event, but to be part of one of the most sensational finds in recent years fills me with pride," said Giuseppe La Spina, one of the group which made the discovery.

He added that the fact the sundial was located in Gela, the town on Sicily's southern coast where he was born, "makes me very emotional".

That Florida man is everywhere!

As an aside, we'll be visiting Stonehenge in September. I don't have much interest in it, but Mr. M always has wanted to see it (with or without its missing bits).

He must have been working on it in 1958 and he was 30, here he returns it and he's 90 years old. Pretty amazing.

I'm glad it found its way back....
"The most terrifying force of death, comes from the hands of Men who wanted to be left Alone. They try, so very hard, to mind their own business and provide for themselves and those they love. They resist every impulse to fight back, knowing the forced and permanent change of life that will come from it. They know, that the moment they fight back, their lives as they have lived them, are over. -Alexander Solzhenitsyn

Well, not that amazing.  Who needs a piece of Stonehenge after age 90?  He was probably done with it.

There's a pill for that now.

No government in the 12,000 years of modern mankind history has led its people into anything but the history books with a simple lesson, don't let this happen to you.

How large "a piece" of Stonehenge could one remove from the place, and how would they get it to America?

The source article shows this:

But it's unclear if that is actually "the piece" in question.

Best part of visiting Stonehenge was calling my roommate while he was on his roughly hour long commute to a job he hated.

Me:  "... On your way into the office?"
B: "Yeah, BLEEP.  I BLEEP hate that place.  [Sounds of chain smoking]  Where you at?"
Me:  "Stonehenge"
B:  "BLEEP you!  [Lots of other BLEEP].  [Sounds of chain smoking]  Is Greg with you?"
Me:  "Yeah"
B: "Well tell him he can go BLEEP himself in the ... [Lots of other BLEEP]"
Me:  "Well, my work is done.  Have fun today"
