King County, Washington, Denies ICE Access to its Airport

By Dan Cadman on April 29, 2019

On April 23, 2019, Dow Constantine, the executive of King County, Wash., issued an order prohibiting Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) from using the facilities of the county's airport for the purpose of detainee transportation flights. The proclamation borders on the absurd with its flights of fancy and overblown rhetoric.

I'd sure like to know whether the King County airport has been the happy recipient of federal dollars in recent years. I'd bet good money that it has.

Having issued this executive order, what's next on the agenda for Constantine? A proclamation denying ICE vehicles the right to travel on roads and highways within the county's borders?

...Neither ICE nor its private contract air-carriers are obligated to file passenger manifests or flight schedules with King County. King County cannot board planes to inspect passengers or cargo, nor direct federal air traffic controllers to prevent any plane from landing.

On April 23, Executive Constantine signed an order to ensure future long-term leases with companies that operate hangars and other facilities at King County International Airport comply with local immigration and human rights ordinances. Specifically, ordinances that dictate that King County will not cooperate or facilitate immigration enforcement directives unless accompanied by a court order....

ICE: King County 'intimidating' us over deportation flights from Boeing Field
https://komonews.com/news/local/ice-king-county-intimidating-us-over-deportation-flights-from-boeing-field

...King County Executive Dow Constantine signed the order Tuesday with the end goal of banning flights of immigration detainees from Boeing Field -- where an average of 360 a month were deported from, according to a report from the University of Washington Center for Human Rights....

..."It's unfortunate to see yet another example of local policymaking aimed at intimidating ICE and our partners, particularly when such policies harm the very communities whose welfare they claim to protect, by making it more difficult to remove criminal aliens who prey upon the innocent," ICE spokesperson Tanya Roman said in the statement. The UW report pointed out that deportation continued unhindered, despite King County being designated a sanctuary region in February 2018, and Constantine acknowledging the flights in June 2018 and promising to stop them....

...It said 34,400 have departed from Boeing Field on 466 deportation flights since 2010. While it's been trending upward under President Donald Trump's administration, it hasn't matched the peak of former President Barack Obama's administration....

Sounds to me like the perfect time to reduce the federal budget by removing the Air Traffic Controllers and all other federal officers from the King County Airport.

Not to mention all the physical assets.

Sounds to me like Kings County is way for some deep and exhaustive FAA inspections and testing, it may also be necessary to reallocate a good number of TSA agents from Kings County to other airports. Sorry Kings County if this cause any inconvenience.

Methinks the proper response is for the ICE agents to return to the airport.
Supported by a column of U.S. Army troops and tanks.
And then, march right into the doors!
