16 arrested in $35M pot bust in 3 metro Atlanta counties

I think these people had a real indoor greenhouse or "grow house" pot empire. Someone squealed on them or somehow the authorities learned about this. Maybe undercover, because they had to distribute this somehow to reek profits.

By Zachary Hansen, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

A five-month investigation led to $35 million worth of marijuana being seized and 16 people being arrested across three metro Atlanta counties, authorities said Wednesday.

Five large grow houses were raided Thursday in Clayton, Gwinnett and Henry counties, Gwinnett County police said in a news release. The houses were embedded in the community and “no one would have suspected” they harbored large drug operations, police said in a news release.

Each home averaged between 340 and 1,500 pot plants and contained sophisticated equipment to manufacture high-grade marijuana, the release said. The 8,500-square-foot grow house in the 6000 block of Williams Road was the largest one busted.

Here in Western WA we had 55 homes raided last year including the house across the street from us, all part of a massive  Chinese drug cartel. They buy houses with cash, and run massive growing and distriibution from them, right under the noses of the neighbors. We had no clue what was going on, other than they kept to themselves, and you would never see the drapes open.

The detectives told us they redo the ventilation having ducts run up the chimney to hide the smell, though we were smelling what we thought were skunks, when all the time we were smelling the pot.  Once in a while they would have a UHall parked in the drive, but you never saw anything come and go from it. What they would do, is pack it up after midnight with the pot.    News said the stuff was not sold locally, but instead driven to the East Coast.

I believe it. I believe in the last 2-3 years, a story was posted on these forums about how these Chinese were buying good, decent homes in Northern California and converting them to such purposes.  I can barely remember anything else.
