Thousands of unaccompanied minors caught crossing the southern border charged that they were sexually abused while in US custody — including by staffers at the facilities where they were held.
From October 2014 to July 2018 — during both the Obama and Trump administrations — the Department of Health and Human Services’ Office of Refugee Resettlement received 4,556 complaints of sexual abuse, and the Department of Justice received another 1,303 complaints.
The numbers include 178 allegations of sexual abuse by adult staff, the website reported.
