Bernie Sanders: 'Damn right I will' raise taxes on the rich

Sen. Bernie Sanders said Monday he would significantly raise taxes on wealthy people and companies to pay for his ambitious policy agenda, which includes giving everyone access to Medicare and creating tuition-free universities all across the country.

"Healthcare, yeah, is a right, making sure that our kids can get a higher education is a right, that we rebuild our crumbling infrastructure is a basic need," Sanders said on CNN. "That's going to cost money."

"But at a time when the people on top have so much while the middle class shrinks and we have so many people living in poverty, if your question is am I going to demand that the wealthy and large corporations start paying their fair share of taxes, damn right I will," he said.

Sanders, an independent senator who is vying for the Democratic Party's presidential nomination in 2020 just like he did in 2016, used Amazon as an example. The e-commerce giant reportedly will not pay any federal income on the $11.2 billion in profits it made last year.

"People say, where are you going to get the money? Where are you going to get the money?" the 77-year-old said. "That's where we're going to begin getting the money."

Sanders, a self-described democratic socialist, was specifically asked how he would fund his plan to make public colleges and universities tuition free.

"We're going to pay for that by a tax on Wall Street speculation," he said.

Note the word, "begin."  The problem is eventually, the money from the "rich" runs out.  Before long they will have to hit up everyone.

And when that happens, it should be interesting how Bernie will get the money from the working class when companies fold and there are no jobs.

Maybe Bernie should take a field trip to countries which have tried "tax the rich" and see how it's worked  out there.  Not very well.

I see that Bernie the Red is channeling his inner Walter Mondale.

Good. Bring him out in the open. Taxing the rich is always popular until people find out they are the rich

Not only that but the rich didn’t get rich by being stupid and handing their money over to the likes of Bernie Sanders.  They will make decisions that protect their own self interest. We see this in states like Illinois, New York, and California and other states that raise taxes too high

Besides, the so-called rich don’t have anywhere near enough money to fund Bernie Sander’s ideas. Most of this is what’s called entertaining the base
I have little interest in streamlining government or in making it more efficient, for I mean to reduce its size. I do not undertake to promote welfare, for I propose to extend freedom. My aim is not to pass laws, but to repeal them.

To truly fund  all his ideas, taxation wouldn’t cover it.  Borrowing and printing would fill in the deficits. We’re doing that now.

@LMAO

Which is why the Progressives keep trying to come up with legislation to allow them to raid private retirement accounts.

I sure hope the GOP is investigating Sander's amazing cash windfall he got to buy a 3rd home right after he conceded to Hillary in '16.

Well, raising taxes on the rich has always been one of Crazy Bernie's ideas.  At least he's consistent.
Romans 12:16-21

Live in harmony with one another; do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly, do not claim to be wiser than you are.  Do not repay anyone evil for evil, but take thought for what is noble in the sight of all.  If it is possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all…do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

First thing that I, too, thought when I saw the article.

BUT...

It ain't 1984 no mo'.
Mondale suffered one of the worst losses in presidential history.
Bernie -- if he becomes the nominee on this "raise taxes" platform -- will easily win 48% of the popular vote.
Or... MORE.
