U.S. Navy Nightmare: The Chinese Fleet Doesn't Have 300 Ships, It Has 650

You have to count the Chinese coast guard and maritime militia.

The Chinese fleet is much bigger than most people think. And that should compel the United States to reconsider its Pacific maritime strategy, one expert argued.

The People's Liberation Army Navy by 2020 will possess between 313 and 342 warships, the U.S. Office of Naval Intelligence estimated.

By comparison, in mid-2018 the U.S. Navy possessed 285 warships.

  • I was a "conspiracy theorist". Now I'm just right.
Oddly,to improve the impression of parity, the Military Sealift Command vessels were included in the US total, but not the Chinese cargo vessels, of which there are many, and no doubt those would be conscripted in a hot war.

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

It's just not realistic to suggest China is a military threat to us. They're not. They are an economic threat.

They are both. Read Sun Tsu. They have.

China has the money (our debt) to build a huge navy.

We no longer do. And once the democrat-communists gain power, they'll start scrapping what's floating right now...

An observation.
Centuries ago, Japan awoke from its long self induced slumber, looked westward and saw a
similar island nation/state w/a very powerful Navy that went where and when it pleased.
Reflecting, Japan said "Why can't that be us" and vowed to change. As a result she became
the ranking world power in Asia till 1945.
In contrast, her neighbor China believed that Marble warships were sufficient to frighten its foes.
Point of the story is direct and simple.
Japan remains the ranking military power in Asia w/China their punching bag for centuries.
Some truly need to get real about China.

Ah bullshit. All of the Chinamen's hubris is coming home to roost. They are way past broke and staring down the barrel of a disorderly collapse. BTW the biggest owner of US debt is......the US. 2018 numbers:

The money they have is not the debt they hold, quite the opposite.

Holding more debt than is likely to be paid is not winning position... We got their money up front in exchange for an IOU.

Their money comes from us and other western countries buying their stuff.

They are a military threat to the countries throughout Asia and they play the long game, with each passing year making small gains. the threat they pose is 10, 20, 50, 100 years in the future

Considering they have been expanding their military hegemony by building islands and enhancing others, then putting facilities on them, it is the strategic equivalent of the island hopping campaign of WWII to assert dominance over a region without occupying every bit of it. (Only the Chinese aren't losing tens of thousands of troops to accomplish this).
