Trump's Golf Course Fires 12 Illegal Immigrants, So Their Lawyer Demands 'Full Investigation'

A lawyer representing a dozen illegal immigrants recently fired by a New York golf club owned by President Trump is now calling for an investigation by New York authorities and the FBI into the club's hiring practices.

In a story reported by the Associated Press and Washington Post, twelve employees of New York's Trump National Golf Club living illegally in the country were called in one by one on January 18 and told that they were being fired. Some of them had been employed by the club for over a dozen years.

The firing came amid Trump's stand-off with the Democrats over border wall funding and followed multiple illegal immigrants publicly alleging last month that they'd worked at Trump's New Jersey club despite their employers knowing that they submitted phony documents for the job, even helping them obtain them.

The recently fired illegal immigrants at the New York club claim that managers have known that they were here illegally, but chose to look the other way when they applied using fake documents.

"This is bogus. People have been there for 12, 13, 14 years," said the illegal immigrants' lawyer Anibal Romero, who is also representing some of the other recently fired migrants, AP reports.

"One had the keys to Eric Trump’s bedroom," Romero added.

The lawyer says he's contacted New York State authorities and the FBI to call for an investigation into what he describes as the former "don't ask, don't tell" policy at the club.

The club fired employees who were in the country illegally.

End of story.

However if the employees had remained working at the club...the headline would have been how Trump was a hypocrite on immigration.

Its "Sour Grapes" pure and simple. They must be claiming that since some of these workers had worked for them for over a dozen years or so, that they knew that they were illegal aliens. That would make the employers in violation of  8 U.S. Code § 1324a. Unlawful employment of aliens.

The contractor then hires the subcontractor," he said. "They have people. I don't know. I don't remember, that was so many years ago, 35 years ago."

But thousands of pages of documents from the case, including reams of testimony and sworn depositions reviewed by TIME, tell a different story. Kept for more than a decade in 13 boxes in a federal judiciary storage unit in Missouri, the documents contain testimony that Trump sought out the Polish workers when he saw them on another job, instigated the creation of the company that paid them and negotiated the hours they would work.
