During a press conference on Friday, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) stated that the Democrats’ “unity is our power, and that is what maybe the president underestimated.”

Pelosi began by answering a question on whether she would rule out money for a wall by stating she’s been “very clear on the wall.”

She continued, “In our caucus, the beauty of it is the mix. And I always say, when people say to me, oh, you’re so good at organizing your caucus. No, I don’t unify our caucus. Our values unify us. And I’m sure it’s the same in the Senate. And the fact is, is that our diversity is our strength. The differences of — in so many different ways, including differences of opinion, that’s our strength. But our unity is our power, and that is what maybe the president underestimated.”

This is a great idea.  Not very reasonable with six GOP senators splintering off and joining the Democrats in voting for opening the government without border wall funding.

If we want to shatter the Dem unity, we first must strengthen our own and stand as one.  At least on this issue.

How long do you expect the essential workers not to be paid, RiV? There's a limit on how long you can keep the government closed before you start causing real problems.

I honestly  don't know ... and I don't know how you're defining problem vs. inconvenience.

But it sounds like you agree with the President's decision to reopen the government for three weeks and get these folks their back pay.  Republicans did try to pass this in the House separately, but Pelosi's troops voted "no" --- twice.

   Correct me if I'm wrong but the House passed a Bill in December and sent it to the Senate that included his Wall Fund, all of it, but McConnell refused to bring it to a vote in the Senate because Trump said he wouldn't sign it.  What has been accomplished besides the $1.6B ongoing Wall/Fence repair you so often post?  Enlighten me, please.

Homogeneity of thought in the pursuit of power is precisely the kind of "unity" America will never survive.  Democrats are all for "diversity" when it comes to their membership (except for white, male Christians of course, who are considered triple oppressors). What they will not stand for in their own ranks is diversity of thought, or of opinion. And so, Ms. Pelosi is mistaken in her belief that "unity is our power" - the pursuit of power is the primary reason for their unity.
