It's a mystery to me.

It is just more of the same. When they didn't have a majority they were going to repeal Obamacare. As soon as they were given the majority they ignored it. They were going to build a wall before they got the presidency and congress. Then they ignore it until they lose it again. Same-o same-o... They rile up their base over and over and then fail them when the chips are down. I don't know why anyone would fall for it anymore.

The GOP had an unprecedented control of the government after the 2016 elections, why wait until the democrats capture a house of congress to get into a showdown?

It begs the question, did Trump/House/Senate want a solution, or did they want the "us against them" argument, for campaigning, and voter turnout purposes?
Democrats play this game better than the GOP does, actually.
Watch a democrat rail against Big Business or the wealthy, yet take all the Soros and Silicon money that they can.

I think he was just throwing crap out during the primary and "THE WALL" stuck. He was smart enough to recognize it and made it his center piece. That's what got Sessions interested in Trump and many conservatives respected Sessions. At TOS that was the turning point of Trump being a clown to their champion - THE WALL!

Everything else about Trump's history was ignored. Cheating on wives, pay off politicians, grab them by the *****, assault weapon bans, wanting Canadian style healthcare, donating large amounts of money to Hillary and other major Dems, support for abortion, etc...

It was all ignored for THE WALL! Nothing else mattered to them. They got conned by a sound bite.
