One day after the three major air travel unions—the National Air Traffic Controllers Association, the Air Line Pilots Association, and the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA—released a statement calling for the end of the government shutdown and warning of a staffing shortage, the Federal Aviation Administration has started delaying flights into New York-LaGuardia Airport because of a shortage of air traffic control workers, reports CNBC.

An aviation insider says the slowdown is also affecting flights into Philadelphia and Newark, as the three airports share a regional FAA air traffic control office.

As we previously reported, at this point, many TSA agents, air traffic control officers, and FAA safety inspectors have been working for more than a month without pay, something the unions are actively working to change by putting pressure on politicians and ramping up the general public's concern about air travel.

Something tells me that this shutdown is a big a** mistake.
