@Sighlass

Obviously I didn't get here in time to enjoy the oldies within the 3-day listening window. That didn't keep me from sitting up till the wee hours of the morning singing a few lines from each song or sometimes an entire song of the ones you had listed in your posts. I'm a little hoarse today, but I had fun cycling through all those oldies. Thanks for starting this thread.

Thanks ATJ, I started the thread, but bow to those that know the era much better than I could ever dream to know it. Post a song, I learn for your knowledge and benefit from it more than you know.

I have felt pretty good the last couple of months... so I am not here as much as I previously was... when I feel good I am working in the yard and doing projects that needed done a long time ago. My hands have toughened up, I feel like a man once more. Thank you Jesus.

Thanks to all who have posted here. I wish I had discovered this thread in time to snag the files, but have immensely enjoyed listening to to the music!

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

@AllThatJazzZ

The Red Phone was used in both of the James Coburn movies "Our Man Flint" in 1966 and "In Like Flint" in 1967. I was told it was also used in an Austin Powers movie.

@Elderberry

Gotta love that red phone tone. That sound is parked somewhere in the deepest recesses of my gray matter. It's been decades since I saw that movie, so it was only vaguely familiar. How often are people around you able to identify its origin?

Raymond Scott Quintette - "Powerhouse"

Also known as that little ditty from countless Looney Tunes cartoons.

@jmyrlefuller

What a fun piece of music! It's a very different experience to hear it as a stand-alone piece as opposed to the background music of a cartoon. Glad you shared it.

No one ever nailed it, that then came up to me. Several people that did thought they recognized it as the Austin Powers crude copy.

@Sighlass

Born in the late 40s, I'm experientially familiar with the songs of the 50s. Since I like music so much, I made sure to reach back and become at least somewhat familiar with classics from the 30s and 40s. My enthusiasm for new music waned when rock music (screechy, angry, violent, rebellious) became so prevalent. When YouTube came into my life, I was able to bypass all the music I didn't like and find songs I hadn't heard for years. I have a LOT of vinyl that encompasses several genres and spans 40 decades, but it's so much easier to just go to YouTube. I love doo-wop/sock-hop, classic country, R&B, Gaithers, contemporary Christian from the 80s, show tunes, and all Glen Campbell performances 44444heart. I've been known to sit down for "just a few minutes" to listen to a little music and end up staying for 2, 3 up to 4 hours.

I'm glad you are feeling well, although I didn't know you hadn't been. (My attendance on TBR is spotty, so I don't know all the players.) Congratulations on getting projects done. That has to feel good! Thank You, Jesus, indeed.

This is what I get when I click over. It makes me nervous because... well... I'm paranoid. I'm not on social media, and I'm cautious about navigating the internet. Is everybody getting this?

This didn't quite make it under the wire since it was released in 1960, but I'm going to include to anyway. In my head and heart, it seems to belong with the others. Notice that one of the brothers is Ed Ames (My Cup Runneth Over with Love - 1967).

I really liked Miss Ann by Little Richard. That's a definite 10 out of 10 for dancing. Now, if I just had a partner.  :shrug:

I think I did include My Cup Runneth Over over in the 60s thread not too long ago. Ames is one of my favorites from that era.
