Pelosi defends vacation jabs at Trump: Maybe he doesn't realize Hawaii is in US

Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) defended her vacation to Hawaii during the government shutdown, taking a jab at President Trump on the day she is set to be elected House Speaker.

In an interview with NBCâ€™s Savannah Guthrie on "Today," Pelosi said that maybe Trump â€œdoesnâ€™t realizeâ€ Hawaii was in the U.S. and that she would have been easily able to return to Washington if necessary.

â€œThe president may not know this, but Hawaii is part of the United States of America, maybe he doesnâ€™t realize that,â€ she said. â€œThatâ€™s why he said Barack Obama wasnâ€™t born in the United States when he was born in Hawaii.â€

â€œHawaii has airports and airlines and telephones, so the communication is good,â€ she said.

Pelosi defended the trip, saying that she observed the Christmas holiday, and that the shutdown actually â€œcut in halfâ€ on her time with family.

The rats, and especially this miserable gorgon, always go way way over the top with their insults of the president yet unlike Trump are never called to account for them. They've totally unanchored themselves from any pretense of civil restraint in an almost childlike way yet I haven't heard anyone in the media suggest they should dial back.

Another one of those things I guess.

I think it's both the fact that she vacationed when the work wasn't done and the fact that she went to a luxury resort and not just home for the holidays that deserves criticism.

Was stationed in Pearl Harbor for two and half years, had all the pineapple, sun, constant 80 degree weather, and Waikiki Beach I could take. I was really glad to get back stateside.

Fortunately, I spent a lot of it all over Asia. Philippines, Japan, Hong Kong, all over Australia, New Guinea, all the way up to the Aleutian Islands. We went everywhere.

Hah! My son lives in Colorado and I'm always telling him to appreciate the weather changes even when it's zero degrees and snowing. Because it's interesting. We do have boring weather here. High of 80 every day with a low of 68. Perfect can be boring.

NO one gets tired of perfect in two weeks!

My brother lived in California for a time and said the same thing about the monotony of the weather.

But since it's been pretty cold (for Texas) for the last couple of days...I would like to see how endless days of 80/68 would be before I got bored with it.

But I have a friend that married a native Hawaiian and lived there for a number of years. She calls it a Bejewelled Cage.

But I wouldn't leave here. The sun will come out tomorrow (a song, perhaps?). I will say that I could never live in Seattle or Alaska...I need sun.
