    It still amazes me what some people can do when they're hooked on heroin. Most of the addicts I knew, including myself, weren't worth a $hit.

It seems like a primary motivator for people kicking smack is the thirst for the return of some self-respect. I guess waking up in a puddle of waste and vomit a few times will do that for some people?  It seems a choice arises at that moment of self-inspection, to either kick it and live, or don't and commit slow-motion suicide.

For unvaccinated, we are looking at a winter of severe illness and death — if you’re unvaccinated — for themselves, their families, and the hospitals they’ll soon overwhelm. Sloe Joe Biteme 12/16

I think "Self-embalmed" might be more accurate.

Scientists should be studying his genes. Can you imagine how long he could live if he had eaten right,exercised,and gotten plenty of sleep?

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Born in 1939, Peter Edward Baker was the son of a bricklayer killed during World War II when Ginger was just 4. His father left behind a letter that Ginger Baker would quote from: "Use your fists; they're your best pals so often."

At age 15, Junstrom was a founding member of Lynyrd Skynyrd when it was founded in 1964 but was replaced in 1971 before the band broke through to fame. Five years after his dismissal, he signed on as the bassist for .38 Special, whose lead singer Donnie Van Zant was the brother of Skynyrd's frontman Ronnie. He continued playing for .38 Special until being forced to retire in 2014 due to a hand injury.

Jessye Norman, Grammy-Winning Opera Singer, Dies at 74
@Applewood
@musiclady

"Norman died in New York Monday morning from septic shock and multi-organ failure secondary to complications of a spinal cord injury she had sustained in 2015, according to the statement."

Multi-organ failure can kill fast.
When I was an Associate School Psychologist, for a public school, the school had a Psychologist in private practice on contract with the school.  He was a friend of mine, a man in his 40s, since we did the same type work in the school system, but I didn't know him in a social way where we visited outside school.

In the summers, I sold real estate, was a real estate broker.  One summer, he and his wife were going to move from Houston to the NASA area where I lived in that school district.  The three of us met together for me to show them houses for sale.  After looking at houses, I took them to lunch at a place that also sold beer/wine/mixed alcoholic drinks.  They totally surprised me by drinking alcoholic drinks until the bill was near $50 just for the alcoholic drinks.

We found a home they wanted and I helped them get the loan for the house, etc.  Less than a year from that time, he was taken to hospital and died from multi-organ failure due to his alcohol intake for years.  I did not know he was that far gone due to alcohol as he did not appear drunk in his work for the school.  It was hard for me to believe this nice man was dead because it happened so quickly.  How could this Psychologist with his knowledge, not know he was killing himself with alcohol?  I went to his funeral a few days later, still stunned he was dead.

Septic shock also happens when the blood becomes infected and the infection is carried to all organs and they fail, causing death.

Bernie Sanders daughter-in-law has passed away. My deepest heartfelt condolences.

No. Why? Because he used his own heart attack to plug his Medicare for All crusade. Of course he'd use his dead in-law to do the same, because that's the kind of guy Bernie Sanders is. A socialist demagogue.

FWIW,I agree with jmyrlefuller on this one. Bernie is a pimp and a whore for communism for thee and me,and capitalism for Bernie when it comes to accumulating wealth.

@jmyrlefuller You want to pillory him Great have at it, this is not the proper forum.
PS Maybe the mods to revisit that since you demonstrate such poor judgment.

I despise Sanders, but realize there other places on this forum to bash him.

I agree.  Others have been chastized for improper banter on this thread.   Kind of hypocritical if you ask me.

It’s a typical tactic of the left to use these situations for political benefit. Remember the Wellstone memorial?

@TomSea

Article said,  "Her obituary said she was diagnosed with 'neuroendocrine' cancer."  Also said she died not long after diagnosis.  I need to look that cancer up - not sure what this one is.  This is not good for that family since Bernie just had heart attack.

@Victoria33

Seems like every time science finds a treatment for cancer,a new type of cancer pops up and screams "neener! neener!"

As for Bernie,at his age he is playing hide and seek with death every day. Cancer is a long-term worry,but his heart,kidneys,or some other vital organ could go out any day.

@Gefn  The problem isn't cancer. It's "CANCERS". Many,many different varieties that all need to be treated differently,and some that can't be treated at all. Medicine has made amazing progress treating the various forms of cancer over the last 20  years or so,but it seems like everytime they get to understand one form and develop a treatment for it,another strain pops up. It's like trying to play "whack a mole".

And for some forms,there are treatments,but there is no cure. They can just delay the inevitable and make life a little more pleasant than it would have been otherwise. LOTS of this often depends on how soon they find it because many types CAN be cured if they find it early enough.
