Envoy to Anti-ISIS Coalition Quits Over Trump's Syria Move

Brett McGurk, the U.S. envoy to the global coalition fighting the Islamic State group, has resigned in protest to President Donald Trump's abrupt decision to withdraw U.S. troops from Syria, joining Defense Secretary Jim Mattis in an administration exodus of experienced national security officials.

Only 11 days ago, McGurk had said it would be "reckless" to consider ISIS defeated and therefore would be unwise to bring American forces home. He decided to speed up his plan to leave in mid-February.

McGurk, appointed to the post by President Barack Obama in 2015 and retained by Trump, said in his resignation letter that the militants were on the run, but not yet defeated, and that the premature pullout of American forces from Syria would create the conditions that gave rise to ISIS. McGurk also cited gains in accelerating the campaign against ISIS, but that the work was not yet done.

"McGurk, appointed to the post by President Barack Obama in 2015 and retained by Trump"

Good riddance.

Can we get some more obama-era holdover resignations, as well...?

Leaked Emails REVEAL Hillary Clinton Briefed About Shocking Sex Video Secret
'Unfortunately now it's news,' warned her trusted Chief of Staff.

Hillary Clinton likely was anticipating a major sex scandal to hit the news involving one of Barack Obama‘s top appointees, documents leaked during the investigation into the presidential hopeful’s use of a private email server have revealed.

Wikileaks made public emails that show Clinton’s staff warned her that Brett McGurk, Obama’s choice to become the ambassador to Iraq after successfully serving as an advisor and specialist in the country, was involved in a sordid affair that was about to be publicly exposed.

On April 18, 2012, a blog on wemeantwell.com, Opens a New Window. hinted that “a State Department VIP apparently has had sex on an Embassy roof, captured on video.”

“What if a video existed that showed a prominent State Department VIP on the roof of the Republican Palace in Baghdad receiving, um, pleasure of an oral nature from another State Department officer not his wife, or even his journalist mistress of the time? What if that video has been passed around among Marine Security Guards at the Embassy to the point where it is considered ‘viral’ with many copies made?” questioned the piece.  ...  More at Radar Online

McGurk also was the top anti-ISIS envoy to the coalition, ISIS got beaten way back, if we don't want to say, they were totally defeated. The Caliphate was busted down.

Somethings people worry about, whether they like chocolate or vanilla, doesn't really matter. What matters is if they did their job well. It sounds like he did.

That story is from July of 2016, so this big story is going to break about a sordid affair,  alright.

It's not just that he had a messy affair.

Leaked Emails Endanger Obama Nominee
BY: Adam Kredo
June 7, 2012 12:59 pm

President Obama’s ambassadorial nominee to Iraq appears to have conducted a lascivious extramarital affair with a Wall Street Journal reporter while the duo were stationed in Iraq, according to a collection of often-explicit emails posted on the website Cryptome earlier this week.

The emails raise questions about the administration official's fitness for the ambassadorship and whether he may have traded access to sensitive information for sexual favors. ...

The explicit details contained in the missives indicate that McGurk, who was married at the time, dangled unprecedented access and information before Chon in return for a series of increasingly intimate sexual encounters. ...

The eyebrow-raising exchanges raise questions about McGurk’s judgment and could come up during his Senate confirmation process.

Some lawmakers, in fact, have already expressed their reservations about McGurk. They object to, among other things, his failure to achieve a follow-up security agreement in 2011.

"I will have very significant questions about his qualifications and his positions on the issues. … He's not my choice," Senate Armed Services Committee ranking Republican John McCain (R., Ariz.) told Foreign Policy magazine’s Josh Rogin in March.  ...

And FTR, For the record, was in the White House in 2008, meaning under Bush.

This assignment, among others, reinforced McGurk's "reputation as a doer", according to the New York Times.[3] He earlier served under President George W. Bush as Special Assistant to the President and Senior Director for Iraq and Afghanistan, and under President Obama as Special Advisor to the U.S. National Security Council and Senior Advisor to the U.S. Ambassador to Iraq. McGurk served as a law clerk to Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist on the U.S. Supreme Court during the Court's 2001 October Term.

On January 19, 2017, President-Elect Donald Trump's press secretary Sean Spicer announced that the incoming administration would retain McGurk in his role leading the counter-ISIS campaign

and that McGurk and Chon were a married couple when the series of emails from five years earlier leaked

Looks like he and this woman got married and the emails were from 5 years before.

I do look at results and truly, ISIS has been beaten way back, the wiki article statets, they lost a 3rd of the territory ISIS possessed, read link for more.

So, maybe it's good if he leaves because of what the Beacon says, such behavior is unacceptable IF TRUE but this is a bit unrelated to why he is leaving and it sounds like he did his job well. He probably should have been gone well before this.... still what if you do get results you wouldn't with someone else?  And those results are good? Still, sounds like 8 years under Obama.

No, it was not okay. Someone though was trying to shoot the guy down with these leaked emails. Again, I'm sorry the guy stayed around for so many years if this was true.

At the same time, I have to acknowledge, it appears he put together an effective campaign against ISIS and getting other countries to help us fight ISIS including, say Jordan who I know helped in the effort among other countries. Mainly bombing missions in support of ground forces, the SDF, those are non-US soldiers, mainly Kurds but some other groups too.

More Good News! Obama Appointee and Adviser behind Iraq Disaster and ISIS Nightmare Resigns (Two Months Early) Over Mean Trump

Now here’s the rest of the story…
McGurk was a long-time Obama adviser on Iraq which turned out to be an historic failure and complete global disaster. The Middle East and Europe are still suffering following that foreign policy nightmare.

Obama appointed him to his ISIS ambassador after the Islamic State took over most of Syria and Iraq.

President Trump came in and whooped ISIS butt in the caliphate.

McGurk was scheduled to retire in February. He put in his resignation this week early to pile on President Trump.

Good riddance.
